Hotel Ole lunds Gaard

Ole Lud Gaar Hotel is a very rare old merchant house in the centre of Kalundborg, with timber framing it has a great atmosphere, the hotel is itself well worth a visit. I have stayed there several times and keep going back each time I’m in Kalundborg. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the hotel comprises of several buildings, reception and restaurant is in one part and the rooms in another, my room was on the second floor (note there is no lift, so not wheelchair or elderly friendly), the room was big and roomy was clean and equipped with all the necessary toiletries (note; the shampoo comes in sachets and is difficult to open when you’re in the shower, open before getting wet), tea coffee makings WiFi etc. All the rooms look onto the court yard and because it’s cut off from the street it’s good and quiet. I ate dinner in the restaurant, I had scampi as a starter then plaice in lemon butter sauce and some ice cream for dessert and all were beautifully presented and tasted great, for those with a big appetite, I recommend the Danish specialty “Biksemad” in Norway it’s called “Pytt i Panne” a hash of meat, potatoes and veg all fried together served with a couple of fried eggs on top, delicious but not for the faint hearted, I can also recommend the Tuborg Classic, a slightly darker version of pilsner.
