Pension Alfa & Whisky Pub

This pension is more fully referred to as the Pension Alfa and Whiskey Pub. Downstairs, yes, there is a little pub with good whiskey (and overnighters get a discount). It is beautifully located in the historic center, just a couple minutes down a side street from the main square. You can usually get a double room for about 42 USD. Fancy rooms? No. Our room was clean, light and comfortable, but there are plenty of other options if you want fancy. Absolute quiet? No. You may hear some noise from the generally quiet street, though we enjoyed perfect silence after about 9pm (even through our two big windows, which we left open). We heard no noise whatsoever from neighboring rooms or the hallway. (It probably helped that there was a door between the entry/bathroom area of our room and the sleeping area. Great feature.) Fabulous breakfast? No, just the local standard. But the charming building dates back to the 15th century, and there's storage for bicycles. Recommended: Explore Tabor on the first day, including a visit to the Hussite Museum, then spend the night and get up early for a hike (approximately 12 km) to the ruins of Pribenice Castle. There's not much left of this historically significant castle, just some fragments of wall, but the walk is a lovely one along the left bank of the Luznice River. When you get to Pribenice, stop at the pension for a beer. There's nothing else at Pribenice, and no transportation connections, but you can walk an additional 5 km to the village of Malsice and catch a bus or train back to Tabor. Use idos.cz whenever you want reliable bus and train information in Czechia. Don't expect the Saturday schedule to work on Sunday.
