Hotel Rex is located in the very downtown of Santiago next to Plaza de Marte square. If you go down the main street (Jose Antonio Saco) you can reach the Malecon and the park area alongside. Very close to Rex is barracks Moncada (now it is a museum) and the local headquarters of the Cuban Communist Party (just across the street from the main entrance of Rex). To my surprice, when I visited Moncada museum I saw hotel Rex on one of the photos....I asked the guide and she said that the Cuban revolutionaries (including Raul Castro) stayed in Rex hotel just before they attached Moncada back on July 26, 1953. There is a nice terrace on the top floor with a nice view to the city centre. The only negative is that mos of the rooms lack windows and are noisy but given the price and location it is a very good deal overall.
