I registered for a room and they refused to let me enter. It was 2:15am and I was told they were closed. I had a paid registration and I was forced to wander the streets looking for a place to sleep. I'm a foreigner and I was told I can't come inside to safety. This Hostel put my life in jeopardy!!!

Horrible experience

Andres who works at the hostel is very nice and very attentive and helps in everything. The precious ones are good. I had a very good day here and I have good memories! Very good hostel. Very recommended!!

We were lucky to find this accommodation, good quality/price ratio, very good location and excellent information service.We had all kinds of facilities and interesting information, which has allowed us to enjoy our stay in Jacó 100%.

Great little hostel just off the main street of Jaco. 5 minute walk to anywhere. Powerful fans in the shared dorms, and cool tents available for couples or two people with fans as well. Kitchen and fridge are available if you want to make your own meals, with a nice backyard with hammock and tables. Andres (manager) was very helpful and friendly. 

A nice bonus is access to Jaco Blu (a beach front spa which is shaded - you can leave your stuff there, go for a swim and some sun then head back to Blu to enjoy the shade and cool off).

Great hostel - clean, good management, close to all

Great place! Centrally located and the staff is warm and welcoming. Close enough to everything, but far enough to be quiet at night. 

I extended my stay and wish I could have stayed even longer. This would be my first choice if I am ever in Jacó again. 

Home away from home

The hostel is small but nice and the people make you feel part of a family thanks to Mark, Lorna and Laura who helped us a lot with information about everything.Everything works fine, and if you're bothered by cold showers or ants, don't visit Costa Rica.Genius... pure life.

If you have a car and you want to park it on the spot, reserve a seat (free) or you'll have to park in front of the street. The place is nice, it's pretty clean. We went to the dorm, thankfully there's a lot of ventilators, otherwise it would be unsustainable. SDB ok, cold water. 17€ to two in the dorm for one night. Good quality price ratio

Correct

Me and my friend planned to stay 17 days in Jaco. We were looking for a hostel to stay in that was cheap yet professionally ran. Riva was the perfect match. We spent our entire 17 days here. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience here. Let's start with the living conditions. Our tent was clean and ready upon our arrival. The hostel grounds were well maintained. The bathrooms/showers/kitchen were maintained daily. The hostel itself somewhat tucked away from the main street, yet still in reasonable walking distance to all the best bars and restaurants, this makes Riva's location great because you can get break from the night life when needed. We felt extremely safe at the hostel, as it has a metal fence surround the entire property, plus it is locked at all times and entry can only be made with the key you are given. There are also lockers available to secure valuables. The staff - Charlie and Laura are extremely hospitable and knowledgable. They know the ins and outs of Jaco well and can point you in the right direction if you're looking for fun things to do or need directions. For the price you pay you get a fairly priced, safe, and professionally ran place to live. This was my first time staying in a hostel and I was extremely pleased. I would return to Riva again and would recommend to any one looking for a hostel in Jaco. Make your reservation today! - Jesse

#1 Hostel in Jaco

Basically Pura Vida. It's the basics, shower, bed, picnic area, fridge, kitchen, and knowledgeable hosts. There is also security cameras and a locked gate. Each room has a fan which is a must. The environment is very friendly, and people are very social and welcoming. This place is two blocks off the main strip, which is not far at all. It also makes it quiet at night which is very nice. There is a super market and a Pura Vida restaurant a block away, both of which are incredibly convenient. The hosts can answer virtually any question you have about Jaco, from which restaurants you need to try, to which method to use to travel, to where to go for the best surf. Everything you would need in a surf town like Jaco can be found at Riva.
Do not come here if you are looking for an air conditioned hotel room. To be honest, if that's what you're looking for, Jaco probably isn't the place for you anyways. This is a surf town, and this is a surf hostel.

It's what you need

Although the staff was friendly, the hostel owner fixed some strictly policy rules. At checkout time I have been literally forced to leave the premises in the middle of a flight booking process which I had to carry out somewhere else. Also I have not been allowed to leave my rucksack there for a few hours after check out(first time in my life). I'd like to point out that the hostel was pretty empty which should have not caused any inconvenience for them. Beside there is not hot water and the tiny rooms are boiling hot. LOOK ELSEWHERE
