He Xi Inn

We stayed at He Xi Inn during our last night in the Zhangjiajie area, after three nights in Wulingyuan exploring the Forest Park, and were thoroughly impressed. The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Zhangjajie town, a short distance and cheap taxi ride from the airport. Location is slightly tricky to find, down a narrow side alley not signposted on navigation apps, so do make a note of directions in advance. The surrounding streets contain a number of cheap dining options, with a fully equipped supermarket within walking distance. I would however describe the neighbourhood as feeling a little seedy. The hotel staff were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Although none spoke English (as is common in Chinese hotels) one member of staff had a translation app, which was sufficient to communicate all relevant questions. Our room was clean, spacious and extremely well equipped, with fast free wi-fi and a 'Smart' TV. The bathroom was enormous and featured the most powerful shower we encountered during our three weeks in China; a much needed luxury after our basic accommodation in Wulingyuan. The only significant drawback was the noise from the street outside, with music and chatter persisting throughout the night. The hotel staff were also asleep at the desk when we returned from our evening meal, with the front door left open, which felt a little insecure. Given the great price, high standard of facilities and convenient location, I would fully endorse a stay at the He Xi Inn whilst in Zhangjiajie town.
