we caught the fast train from Hangzhou East (dong) to Jiashan South (nan) G7354 35min Bus at K222 booth; the man said to go to next queue as bus faster FL7752 8Y 40 min to Xitang, drops you off at the Ancient Town Tourist Center so ended up paying 50CNY (for 60-69 yo) for entry (100CNY normally). If you catch the K222 bus or walk around the Tourist Center you can avoid paying the entry. The Ancient Town is about 5-10X bigger than the Tonglizhen water town and the Xiyuan Garden was pretty. You can walk just outside the Ancient town which is just as interesting. Lots of restaurants to choose from (unlike Tonglizhen). Yushui Cheng Feng Guest House 27 Shaoxianggang South st. is right where the action is. Our room overlooked one of the canals. However it is cash only; 507CNY for the 4 of us. Served breakfast of congee, Chinese doughnut and soymilk. Walked through baggage to bus station at Pingchuan Rd just south of the Nanyuan Rd corner. On the way in Xiyuan Rd there was a morning vegetable market (modest size); we turned into Hongfu Rd and between Xiyuan Rd and Nanyuan Rd bought a whole roast duck for 20CNY! They chopped it up for us and it was delicious.
