Tunxi Lodge

Visited there july 2014. Really nice located at the quiet end of the pedestrian old street. Nice chinese furniture with a bit hard bed but modern toilet and shower.  We stayed there for 3 nights as a base to visit the huangshan mountain and the nearby villages. We skipped breakfast,  too chinese for us. They do not speak too good english but we got along just fine.  Very good value for money,  clean hotel. 

I really enjoyed my stay in Tunxi and at the Tunxi Lodge. Miss Chris the manager speaks perfect English and I thought really went out of her way to help me. I told her I wanted to stay one week and she wrote up an itinerary for me wih a daily schedule for visiting Haungshan mountain, the beautiful villages, and Baos Garden. Her information of where to get the public buses the times and costs were spot on perfect. She even arranged for me a driver to get to some out of the way places like the stone gates, and Baos Garden and another village including a discount on a ticket price. Tunxi Lodge is very well located at the west end of Old Street. As soon as you walk down the stairs at the west end from the main road on Old Street, Tunxi Lode reception is not more than 50 meters and on the right side. The room is very old style Chinese. The room had a good shower and plenty of hot water. Also I had a good wifi signal and could make very good skype calls from my IPad. The one thing I didn't like was the bed because it had a foot board which is a bit of a hinderance  if you are tall and the mattress was harder than Chinese algebra. Also the widows did not have any screens. This is a problem I've encountered all over the world. A simple screen would keep mosquitos at bay. They have an air conditioner but I don't like them I'd rather just open a window unless it's really hot. The hotel restaurant has a western breakfast available but it's a bit skimpy for 35 yuan. I couldn't find any other place in Tunxi that had a western style breakfast though. I would give the Tuxi Lodge a very high rating if they would change the hard mattresses. Over all though this is a nice hotel with a very friendly and good staff.

We traveled to Tunxi from Shanghai to explore Yellow Mountain. The hotel is located in the old part of town, which is perfect for walking and eating! We were there during New Year, so there were a lot of fireworks, as expected! The hotel was very nice and updated, with original furniture. That being said, the beds were very hard and short! We have grown to expect this in China, but my husband is 6'4 and it was uncomfortable!

Great location chinese hotel

The Tunxi Lodge/Old Street Ambiance

Perfect location

The location was great because it was at the beginning of the Old Street with little tourists. The rooms are really nice furnished. We would recommand the Huangshan tea in the restaurant. WIFI was also best to use in the restaurant area.

The mattress is hard like stone and the walls are thin like paper and you can hear every single word spoken next door. English was not spoken by anyone. WIFI connection in the room was really bad.It is a pity that the restaurant never had any guests. The included chinese breakfast wasn't really our taste. Within 4 days the room was never really clean.

Good location, nicely furnished

Tunxi Lodge is situated on a quieter end of Old Street, Tunxi.  It couldn't be in a better location for shops, restaurants, bars, tea houses, and coffee shops.  We really enjoyed wandering the street in the evening, having a nice dinner and drinks, and being able to walk to the hotel afterwards.  It is also really close to the Xiu'an River, lovely to walk along in the early morning and see the fishermen.
The hotel is small, approximately 38 rooms, and is connected to a restaurant next door that serves breakfast.  There is a choice of Chinese or Western breakfast, we had the Western which included cereal, toast, eggs, and bacon.  The receptionists are very friendly but speak limited English.  They were extremely helpful in storing our bags when we went to Yellow Mountain.  The rooms are spacious and the furniture is traditional to the Ming, Qing dynasties, although bringing the beds into this era might be helpful.  The mattresses are rock hard!  The bathroom is clean and functional, although the shower floods the floor every time it is turned on, it was a bit of an annoyance. 
Overall, I couldn't imagine there is a better location in Tunxi.  I would definitely give it a higher rating if not for the bed.  For a night, it's worth the stay.
