We travelled as family with a toddler and stayed for 3 nights.
  
Room: With an oriental touch, we enjoyed our room which had a lovely view of the Cangshan. Waking up to the sunshine falling on the mountains was a real delight (King Room with Mountain View)

Service: The staff was polite and answered to all our questions. While the staff at the reception kept changing, the lady manager was very helpful in giving travel tips to us around sightseeing. Housekeeping was done daily.

Breakfast: Being a hostel/Inn we went ahead and booked breakfast for throughout our stay. Must say we weren't satisfied with what we were served as we had no option and had to eat congee and buns. one meal is ok but not all. On our day of check-out we were declined breakfast as the cook wasn't available which really put us off as we had hurried to be on time with a toddler and no food to eat. our only complaint was let us know a night before so we are better prepared. We expressed our grievance to the lady manager who did her best to undo the mistake with multiple tries and finally compensated us by arranging a Lunch with other residents and staff. That felt like a warm meal with the locals. we really enjoyed and appreciate the length to which the manager went to make up for the mistake. 

Location: Very convenient, located almost across the main road of the west gate of Dali Ancient Town. Plenty of restaurant and shopping options around.

LilyPad is a quiet, peaceful inn, suitable for families travelling on a budget.

Peaceful!

I stayed for 3 nights at the Lily Pad in a small double room, beautifully furnished with traditional Dali furniture and wonderful views of Cangshan (4,000 meter peak). The building was extremely quiet and the the young staff very friendly and helpful. They both speak good English. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed and I got the chance to chat with the other guests as we sat around the central courtyard. I recommend the Lily Pad to single travellers, couples and families !

Was a pleasure to meet Gandalf teaching the dinosaur how to ride the plane. 

Erin was also very nice and helpful, always making sure everything was ok for me. 

Lots of great people working and staying at this hostel, highly recommend 😊

We visited Dali and its surroundings for three days. The city is very busy...on the contrary Lily Pad is a calm and friendly oasis.There is a wonderful court where you can have breakfast or just hang out and drink rose tea. I enjoyed especially to play with the young and funny cats and the dinner with the staff which you can join as a guest.
We had very good restaurant recommendations as well as detailed information about hiking.

Peaceful oasis

Cute guesthouse, very welcoming and feels like family environment. We even had the experience of dining with the staff including owner which is an amazing woman and always there to help for whatever reason.  10minutes walk from Dali old part which is an amazing area not to be missed.

Recommend it anytime

It's a nice Chinese-style hostel, but it's very disorganized, sometimes the running water is lacking, and the waitresses are pretty slow, near the three pagodas and a bus station, recommended for a day's getaway like ours.

Not very positive.

A nice hotel and above all a perfect and qualified staff. They have a very good English and are at your service to make your stay pleasant. You have a question about the activities to do around Dali or you need help to book your next destination do not hesitate to ask them. Spacious guesthouse, large terrace to lay down with pool table. Well maintained rooms. Bedroom has 4 beds 6 dollars with large locker. Bathroom with shampoo and soap, hot water. Clean every day. Good wifi and computer are available to you. A space to do your laundry and clean your laundry. Good quality for the restaurant. For breakfast, I had waited too long in Old Damage, the staff set me up with the red fruit plates then I didn't have to offer any expense. I didn't have to find a cigarette for my clients, and I even found a 5 minute laptop for the restaurant.

The customer is king

I stayed at this hotel twice, the first time in a 4-bedroom with no bathroom and the second time in another dormitory with an integrated bathroom. Completely satisfied with the ease of access, the calmness (just outside the old city) and the hospitality, especially Tin-Tin. Beautiful terrace views, comfortable common areas, very reasonable prices. The only place in 3 months of travel in Asia from where I left with a gift from the house.

A Good Choice

Nice comfortable room for a very reasonable price. Very close to the centre of the old town (west gate) but very quiet place. The meal shared with the staff is generous and unparalleled in the city in terms of price. Erin is really very nice and helpful. In short, a very good address where you feel good from day one. I would go back without hesitation.
