Motel hotel (Beijing South Railway Station Branch)

We arrived at Beijing Airport at 1am and then at the Motel 168 at around 2 am, at reception we presented our voucher from a reputable on-line hotel booking agent for a 7 nights stay. The looked at it, upside down, right way up, poured over the the computer for ages, but all we got was shaking heads. They then handed us a bill and with sign language we worked out they were telling us that we must pay the equivalent of $100. We had paid $ 34 per night for the room to the on-line agent. We kept insisting we had already paid and the voucher was for that, but no. Finally at 4:30 we gave up and paid the $100 by credit card and went to bed, thinking maybe we could fix it in the morning. The next morning we arrived at the desk and still the same result. So I rang (at great expense) the booking companies help line in Thailand. They listened to my problem, said hang on they would call the hotel, they came back after some time and said no one speaks English at the hotel!!! Said they would have to find someone who spoke Chinese and try call them again. Eventually all that happened and after another hour and a half of messing around they accepted the voucher, but said they would not refund our $100 until we left. We are not criticizing anyone, but in future I think I would perhaps just turn up and hope there was a room and pay. The Hotel was fine we have stayed in the Shanghai and Hangzhou branches of Motel 168 before where they did have someone who spoke English and seemed savvy about vouchers. The hotel is very good value for money, clean and the staff courteous. Turn right as you leave the hotel, turn right into the street beside the hotel and follow to a great night street eat area. Hotel is less then 1km from Beijing South Station where the high speed trains depart for Shanghai and not far from the CBD. I would recommend this hotel.
