5 reviewsWell, not the hotel, the maid. Real classy. I gave her my clothes to wash the first morning. She came rushing back an hour later with my cell phone and cash that were in my back pocket. She was just a delight - an older lady who clearly takes it as her personal responsibility to look after the guests and make the room as perfect as she can. I tipped her so well for the laundry every day that in the end she didn't really want to charge me anything for it. You won't find that at the Waldorf Astoria let's face it. Her pay is probably $100 a month so it's not difficult to double or triple her pay for the time you are there just by being a little generous - I hope you are generous, as if you are reading this you are for sure rich enough to do so. I went here for the first time as my usual hotel is being remodeled and my local friends booked me into the place opposite The Midtown. It was so awful I walked out - rarely do that. And this place is a gem - only 15 bucks a night. The room was old but spotless. The bed was fine - some small holes in the sheets and towels like in Mexico. If she is like mine, your wife will be looking to complain about something and won't quite be able to nail them. But I was looking to save money to spend on restaurants. And I love hotels like this in Phnom Penh as the heat is so awful in the city that you can throw out all your clothes several times a day and not notice the laundry bills. Wifi was excellent. It goes off for short periods sometimes. There are lots of good restaurants in the area south of the hotel. One thing I would note is that you have to be young, poor, or a little savvy as a traveler to stay at these B&B type hotels in PP. I would not leave cash around - nothing to do with the maid I hasten to add. There is no safe. But who knows, thieves probably target richer hotels for more pickings. I'll go back on my own for sure. My wife was most insulted when I said she was too fancy to stay there, and insists she will try it out. So await the next report! What we will save in hotel bill will no doubt get made up for in restaurant bills.
