DuPlooy's Jungle Lodge

Our short stay at Sweet Songs was absolutely amazing and truly set the bar high for our honeymoon trip! We were picked up at the BZE airport by a gentleman holding up a ‘sweet songs’ sign. He informed us it would be about 2.5 hour drive which was unexpected and I wasn’t looking forward to it. However, our driver was SO nice and personable- telling us stories about Belize and his life in this beautiful country and before we knew it we had arrived at the Lodge! Starting with check-in we felt so welcomed! While they took our bags to our room we got a tour of the gorgeous grounds and enjoyed a welcome drink poolside. We stayed in Treehouse #12 which was private but conveniently located next to the reception desk and the pool (and pool bar). They decorated our bed with fresh, vibrant flowers for our honeymoon which was such a sweet thing to do. Our treehouse was spacious and clean. The food and drinks were delicious and beautiful. I’m allergic to gluten and they always accommodated if the original dish wasn’t inherently gluten free. The best part of our meals were the local wildlife visitors. We added this stay onto the start of our honeymoon so we really only had 1 full day to enjoy an excursion. We chose to horseback ride through the jungle to Xunantunich and it was incredible! A MUST do if you can. It is a 2 1/2hr one way ride, but it’s cool under the shade of the jungle canopy. Armenio was the best guide and stopped to show us the different uses for the plants we were passing. Carlos toured us around the ruins and his passion for telling the Mayan history was contagious! Then, he drove us back in a vehicle and we stopped at a restaurant to have an authentic Belizean meal- fabulous! The grounds are stunning and well maintained. The workers are so welcoming and nice. They even arranged for Stephen to drive us to Dangriga so we could catch the boat for the second leg of our trip and again, the 2.5 hours flew by as we drove through the mainland and chatted with him about his culture. We cannot wait to come back when we have an extra day or two to explore and enjoy all that Sweet Songs has to offer. The only people I wouldn’t suggest this location to would be those with trouble with steps/stairs.
