Gasthof Hamberg

As veterans of France we booked Austria this Christmas looking for the perfect Christmas getaway and introduction to winter sports for our young family and I think we found it! We'd been to Austria previously but to English ran accommodation in Wagrain and booked this full of hope but trepidation, would the hosts welcome the kids? Would they like the food? Would there be snow? Would we be able to get by with very little German? The hotel was perfect, the family who run it speak very poor English but much better than my 100 or so words of German and made every effort to make the hotel a real home from home. They really went the extra mile which is important when travelling with a young family (4, 3 and under 1). Many of the clientele were return visitors and I can really see us returning next Christmas. Slightly critical but family room could do with bathroom updating, that's only criticism really. The staff are wonderful and very well located as a base to explore the Ziller valley.
