Surfers Paradise YHA

This hostel is quite lovely. It’s a bit quieter than something down in surfers paradise itself (and any Aussie can stay in a dorm if they so wish, unlike all the ones I looked at in the heart of surfers paradise which state only international passport holders are allowed in dorms... YHA doesn’t discriminate!) Which is nice after a long day out., to come back and relax. I mean some nights there is/would be a little bit of noise from the bars nearby but it’s not that bad and on my first night (a Sunday) it didn’t go too late. The skybus of coming from Coolangatta airport drops you off right out front too which was very handy. Also picks up from the same spot. If you want to go into surfers for some fun and sun and a bit more action than main beach offers, the bus doesn’t take long at all. And is quite cheap. If all else fails an Uber or taxi wouldn’t cost too much either if you’re returning after buses have stopped. It’s a decent hike so unless you’re a keen walker, definitely look at the bus or Uber/taxi. I found the bathrooms to be clean and well maintained. And the water pressure in the shower was good and the water stayed nice and hot. I didn’t use the kitchen during my short stay so can’t comment on that. The beds are quite comfy, and I stayed in a 6 share all female room and there was a good amount of space for people to move around in and not be completely on top of each other! The balcony area outside the rooms is quite cool, with chairs and tables you can relax at while eating or just taking in the views. I booked my stay directly through the YHA website, which never stated anywhere about a $20 room key deposit. So I was surprised upon check in when I was asked for it. I don’t have a problem with paying one as you get the money back and I understand why hostels do this. But it would be a good idea to have it in the book information/stated in the booking process so people aren’t caught off guard by it. (This isn’t a bad thing. Just a suggestion to have this mentioned in the booking process so guests are aware) I would definitely return to this hostel for my next visit to the Gold Coast!!
