From the outside viewer's eye Surabaya might not seem like the place to find a truly high-class, luxury hotel. But, if anything my travels in the country taught me, it was to never assume anything. And my experience at the Grand Surabaya was definitely one of very good service, and staff who truly cared about making their guests' stay a pleasant and relaxing experience. The entire city is fun to explore, and I recommend visiting it if you want a truly authentic Indonesian experience instead of being surrounded by thousands of tourists. Simply put: a wonderful experience found in a city with great character and people who are truly genuinely kind. If you find yourself in Java, definitely take the time to stay here and feel the true heart of the Indonesian spirit.
