I booked a bed in dorm room at Tipi Hostel at How An for the short weekend holiday, and it turned out a horrible mistake. Once when I arrived hostel, there was no-one at front desk, I had to wait for a while, then there was a man showed up, without greeting, I was ignored. I myself had to come and ask about check-in procedure. Room is full of mosquitos that I had to cover from top to toe at night, and of course, there was no "thank you" or "see you again" as I basically get for check-out time. I wished I had read reviews here before deciding to stay there

The worst experience ever

My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. We had a private room which was clean enough but smelt a little. Bed was hard but we slept well until noises from the street and boiler started in the morning. Breakfast basic, scrambled eggs and a mini baguette. Hot water temperamental. Overall though an okay place to stay - it's cheap and the location is a good one near the old town. It is not a social hostel with opportunity to meet people. 

The man on reception was friendly enough. The woman too, apart from the fact she seemed to find us quite funny and laughed through every conversation we had with her. The night porter was pretty rude - we had left some clothes to dry in the reception and when we returned to pick them up we couldn't find them so asked him (in Vietnamese) where they were. He just shrugged and went to sit outside away from us bothering him and then later to leave the hostel and wait by the road for our taxi. 

Tipi is a good enough place if all you want to do is sleep and we really did get what we paid for.

You get what you pay for

I can’t comment about the hostel in general as we cancelled simply because we had motorbikes and the only parking was on the street and not at all secure. 

We did email when we booked to ask if they had secure parking and the answer was “yes”. When we arrived the secure parking was leave your bike on the road and loop a rusty chain to go through your wheel. I probably sound precious but if your only means of transport is the bike, why risk it. Especially when you can find plenty of places in Vietnam that will have proper parking and/or security to watch your bike. 

Non-secure Parking

You can't see it directly from the outside, as there is no clear logo, but with maps.me you can find everything (: a clean hostel, filled with a lot of kindness. The location is super pleasant and the city and the beach can be reached quickly by bike!

Low Hostel

Me and my partner stayed at Tipi hostel for 5 nights in a private twin room and loved our stay. The staff are really really friendly and helpful, they make you feel very welcome. The location is perfect!!! Amazing breakfast, clean room, amazing (and needed!) air con and a fan, large private bathroom and clean towels everyday! I can’t recommend this hostel enough!

Can’t recommend this hostel enough!

Stayed here for a few nights over the New Year Celebrations. Glad we did as it was a nice location, close enough to walk to all the festivities but not so close to be kept up all night. We were able to watch the fireworks from the rooftop patio, which was perfect. Lost one star because of what appeared to be a large black mold spot above the beds in the room. Otherwise everything was good!

Good hostel, great rooftop and location

I booked one bed one day in advance in the hostel because it’s a popular area that I want to stay in. 
When I arrived at the reception at 5.50 pm the receptionist told me they gave my bed to someone else because they thought I wasn’t coming. I argued that on the website it says the check-in time was between 1.00 and 9.00 pm, plus they didn’t even try to contact me even though I left my Vietnamese Mobil number and my email address. 
They offered me a bunk bed in a hostel that’s located far away from the city since the whole city was fully booked tonight. I refused the offer because I came to Hoi An to be in the city otherwise I wouldn’t have come here at all. In the end they could only find a private homestay for me in the same neighborhood with a single room. 
The receptionist kept apologizing to me but she couldn’t offer an explanation and my stay here in Hoi An got seriously spoiled by the unfortunate mistake that they made. 

Worst experience: they gave my bed away

Had a really enjoyable stay at Tipi! The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The staff are really friendly and helpful,especially Tuan who went the extra mile to make sure people were being looked after. He even led a group of us to the local market to choose some fresh produce and led by him, we cooked up a storm! He then provided me with information for the rest of my trip!😀

Tipi's Top!

The staff were friendly and really helpful with information on where to go & where to eat in Hoi An. However the room was filthy. We stayed in a private room, the walls were filthy, there were ants in the toilet & in my bed as well as three cockroaches in the bathroom one night. 

The beds were comfortable & the shower was powerful & separate from the toilet. The location is fab.

Overall wouldn’t stay again due to the cleanliness but the location is fab if you are looking for somewhere close to old town.

Friendly staff, bugs in room.

We had a very nice time at the Tipi Hostel, actually we wanted to stay only three nights and then move to another hostel. But then we decided to stay longer in the suburbs. The rooms are clean and well equipped. The hostel is run by a small family who are very friendly and hospitable. The hostel has a great location from which everything can be reached quickly.
