I am an African-American business traveler, and have stayed in lodgings all over North America without ever being treated this way.  I made reservations at the north star over the phone.  When I arrived to check in, an old lady at the front desk who looked like Ozzy with white hair (and smelled like a distillery) said they were full.  When I stated my name and that I had made reservations, she called me the n bomb and said my people weren't welcome there.  And they still hit my credit card!

Worst of my career

I've stayed there a few times and the last time I was there was in the winter. The room I got, the heat was not working right so after a couple of hours I gave up and went to motel 6 in Colchester. It was the same price and a lot better! So don't waste your money there!

For entertainment value, you must talk to the owners; very good sense of humour.

We were lucky enough to spend only one night in this motel, with all the proper premises in the middle-class American motels, without expecting much... but some inconveniences could be avoided. We had the room next to the front desk, they left the phone on all night with a doorbell ringing along with the phone. Needless to say, sleep was disturbed. The bathroom toilet was positioned perpendicularly between two walls, in the sense that we couldn't sit upright because our knees touched the front wall.

No more than one night

We were on our last night of a bike tour of Vermont. This place was perfect for us. We had stayed in mostly B and Bs, which are great, but it was nice to be in a good old fashioned motel. Rooms were clean, staff was nice. They had a pretty good breakfast, much better than usual for this type of motel. Good coffee, yogurt, fruit, cereal, and more. And extra credit for having NBC sports channel so we could watch the Tour de France.

Good budget motel

Very dirty...basement...no air conditioning..76 US$..I saw better. First and last time in this place..I had to ask for hand-held soap and then push myself to get it..the shower just de-iced..you have to judge.

Wrong Choice

This was perfect for us, no frills and clean but also funny and someone trying so hard with this location.  Our door hit the bed when we entered, it was a tight fit.  The sheets and pillows were clean and fresh as were the bath towels but both so thin I could see through to the mattress print easily.  The bed covers however were stained and we immediately pushed them away so they never came near our faces.  The shower had good pressure and was hot, the paint, molding, vanity and caulking was drippy, chipped, curled, warped and peeling. The staff were friendly and  present- the breakfast pastry and sugar.  I suppose some would be thrilled. Nice location to visit both Shelburne and Burlington and several excellent restaurants nearby tasty food.

Adorable and horrible at once

Beds were comfortable. Room was clean.Smelled like freshener. Towels were good. The chairs under tree by the rock were nice. Beer store down the street.  Not many restaurants in walking distance.  One that is good but $$$$.

Room 12 toilet sideways,cant fit to poop. Ice machine was 50% water. who knows what was growing in there. AC way under seized and points directed at side of bed. Staff opened breakfast 1.5 hours late. Lady looked like she just came off a bender. Lobby and breakfast room were very warm, no AC.  Obnoxious office phone bell rings outside 24/7. $150 a night double. Slept great.

Needs new ownership!  Wifi not secure.

In a recent trip to Burlington we stayed in the North Star Motel for 2 nights. The motel itself is not very luxurious but it met our needs for a last-minute trip. We did as many hotel guests do and went about our day exploring the city, only to return to our hotel to change before dinner. As I was getting ready, I noticed that my perfume bottle had disappeared from my bathroom travel kit, which I had left in the bathroom. I spent the next few minutes frantically looking through my luggage and the hotel and was unable to find it. The next morning I informed the checkout clerk about the situation, she informed me that she would look into what happened and call me back in a few hours. Several hours later (around 11:30pm) I received a phone call from the clerk informing me that she had no explanation for the missing perfume bottle, but that she would send me a gift card so that I may replace it. I found the arrangement to be acceptable. 

Two weeks later the clerk contacted me again in order to confirm my information. It has been well over a month since the incident and I have yet to receive the gift card and or any information regarding the gift card. 

The whole situation is very upsetting, I feel violated just knowing that someone went through my personal belongings. I strongly recommend anyone visiting Burlington to avoid the North Star Motel at all cost.

Below average motel and our perfume bottle was stolen.

Very clean, no frills rooms, comfortable beds and ample free continental breakfast at a modest price compare to any place else within 3 or 4 miles just south of downtown Burlington and I-189. The decor and furnishings may be a bit dated, BUT the North Star has the three "C"s I expect: CLEAN, comfortable, convenient. The free continental breakfast had a good assortment of pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, etc.  The only gripe my wife had was that the room heat is not user adjustable within the room. The rooms are centrally heated, but do have individual air conditioning. The day we arrived, it was a 55 degree day in May. Upon asking the owner, we were told that it wasn't cold enough to turn up the heat which would affect all the other rooms also.  Anyway, it wasn't all that cold, and the heat did come on (comfortably) over night into the morning.  I don't think there would be a comfort problem in either winter or summer, just during unseasonable cold temperature swings like we experienced. It would have been nice if we could have been able to adjust heating for our own comfort, that's all.  Otherwise, our stay was comfortable and priced right (about a third less than anything else convenient to Burlington.
