Overall this is a terrible place to stay with terrible management. My date selection got reset during booking, and when I called them immediately after to tell them what happened they offered to issue a refund, but didn't follow through. I followed-up but didn't receive an answer. Since I ended up staying somewhere else in SB, I stopped by to see them in person to try to sort out what was going on. The manager, Holly, was awful. She shamed her team accusing them of not following policy and made it sound like she would be reprimanding them due to my follow-up, and refused to solve my problem. Instead she suggested that I call my credit card company and dispute the charge - what the hell?? From what I could see of the hostel it looked cramped and dirty, very uninviting. My friend who did get a room there said it was terrible in every way.

Stay AWAY

One night stay in this hostel... the room was very small, 10 people walked on it. It was very hot in the rooms, not clean and the hostel can accommodate about 40 people but for that there are only 2 bathrooms so much to tell you that you have to queue. Breakfast is ultra basic, only pancakes to make yourself. No common activities anything and the neighborhood is not top... in short, $66 per night is theft given the quality of the hostel.

Staff were helpful, all-you-can eat pancakes for breakfast, relatively clean and well-located. The dorms are fairly small and the beds shake a bit which needs fixing, but overall our stay was excellent. There is fairly limited parking which is on a first come first serve basis, which can be fairly tricky.

This place has character and isn't a dead hostel with no life.

Small and homely

The staff here bring a warm presence and are very laid back. They are also engaging and helpful. 
The location is pretty central in Santa Barbara. 

The bathroom was dated.
The bedrooms are dated too, they need new frames and more appealing bed sheets!

Needs Updating

This place is a absolute embarrassment. The rooms are incredibly cramped and crawling with ants. If you have any luggage whatsoever you’ll have to walk on it to get to your bed. To compound matters there is no air conditioning and in a very small room this means that you can’t physically sleep due to the intense heat. Furthermore, the staff are patronising and don’t really know what’s good to do mainly because they are permanently high and smoking weed. They leave bongs sitting round and shut things down at 11 just so they can smoke in peace. This place is easily worse than a few nights in the cells. Don’t go near it.

Disgrace

What a dump. For the price this place charges the standard is a disgrace. 6 people squeezed like sardines into a tiny room with floor space so limited only one person could get clothes out of their suitcase at a time. There are two showers between approximately 30, there are ants in the rooms, they desperately require a paint job and no air con means you’re in for a dreadful nights sleep. The place is so cramped it’s unsuitable for anyone who dislikes tight spaces. Staff relatively helpful but rude at times, perhaps due to too much grass. Avoid.

Dreadful spot 

Cozy hostel and nice steff, excellent price, convenient outdoor parking for those driving around California, breakfast included haha... very nice... nearby market for beers and burgers, the top!

That's funny.

I spent two nights in a mixed dormitory. For the price, you can't expect a lot of luxury: no lamps and individual sockets on the overlapping beds, no curtains or panels to have some privacy, and the rooms are small. The common areas are also quite small, including the outdoor terrace where you take the little dej. The advantage is that you can park for free if there is still space in the parking lot.

Very basic but economical

A good student hostel with its own parking lot (usually all the cars fit), there is a kitchen, bathroom and toilet on the floor, the only thing that when the hostel is full there can be queues, as everyone gets up at about the same time. We got up later in the 10th, it was empty and free. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable. Since many people, from the morning onwards, have the same queue to make pancakes, have ready dough, bake it ourselves on the spa, we had to wait around half an hour, but we were going, so it wasn't in principle.

It's a good student hostel.

I'm a little surprised by the positive reviews here. We were there in April - we booked a double room with my friend. We had a room with about 8 square meters, no windows, no air conditioning, no ventilation. On demand we got an old fan. The air was unbearable (it was April!). Our room went to the community room - it wasn't quiet with Oropax either. We just decided on this offer because on the homepage there was something about rentals. The place said, All are broken. Where you can borrow, but not so exactly.
