A lovely cosy friendly place , dog friendly , food fantastic, a wonderful place to wind down and watch the world go by or close enough to visit a ton of places nearby . Views stunning , we have been here a few times and always a great experience.

A truly amazing oldie worldie pub absolutely amazing great rooms, great staff and a great location looking over Ullswater set in the countryside on a hill and has its own brewery, watching the steamers pass the bedroom was cosy, clean and neat the food was great and value for money! Good central place to travel around to Pentrith, Keswick etc 

Really enjoyable two night stay. Very impressed with our room, very clean and fresh. Amazing comfy beds and bedding. Food for breakfast and dinner was fantastic. The best thing was the view from our room looking over Ullswater Lake - stunning. 
Be aware that the Inn is also a pub and we could hear music until around 10.30pm. We also found that the water pressure from the shower was low but all in all, a wonderful place that we would 100% stay at again.

I booked two rooms and was staying for one night over the summer with my wife and 2 girls. The rooms were great and spotlessly clean. We stayed in the building adjacent to the main building so didn't have lake-facing views but still, the rooms were great, there was some noise from the dogs in the next room but cannot complain as they do say they are a dog-friendly place. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were great. Thank You guys , we'll be back :)

We have stayed here twice in a month each time it has been an enjoyable experience it’s comfortable, friendly also feel welcome! Log fire stunning views of ullswater the food has been amazing each time ! 
The staff are so hardworking very good at what they do !

Welcoming to all, including dogs. Great locally produced ale at the bar. Good choice of food and attentive service. Not the cheapest menu but good quality. Gets busy so we booked upon arrival. After a week in Scotland when dogs were not welcome in restaurants it was nice to find somewhere that did. Would definitely recommend. 

Fantastic staff and amazing food

First visit here and we were extremely impressed by the friendly and very efficient staff. Dave the barman was chatty and funny and the lady he worked with was very friendly. We had drinks on the first night and a meal and drinks the next. The food was very tasty ans plentiful. We're booking a return trip to Ullswater next year and will definitely return here for drinks, food and views 

A warm, kind, and cheering afternoon at The Brackenrigg. Drenched, cold, hungry and in need of a pint the pub was warm and welcoming with a roaring fire, good food, and choice beers. Thanks so much to the team for great humour, and being beyond beyond helpful in ordering food before kitchen closure, drying clothes, drowning the sorrows of peaks not yet reached, and providing a great afternoon. Can’t wait to return.

My wife and I were driving by Ullswater a few days after Christmas, on impulse we stopped and despite freezing wind and rain were impressed with the location of this old coaching inn.  Roaring fires, friendly staff and being a Geordie myself did not take exception to the witty remarks from behind the bar, there was also playing some pretty good Motown in the background. Had coffee, honoured as the machine was switched on especially for us! We ordered from the Ciabatta roll section, a very good selection of gluten free and vegan was pleasing to see as my wife usually has to make compromises to obtain GF food.  So my apology to the Inn as the serving was larger than we expected and despite a valiant effort a lot of the GF bread roll was left, for no other reason than the portion would not fit inside my wife!  All tolled a very pleasant experience on a typical December day in the Lakes.  Well done!

stayed here last night in a Lakeview room for my husbands birthday.very comfortable very clean and cosy .bar was atmospheric with northern soul vibe going on .food was nice steak pie tasty and the full English set us up for the trip home my husband decided to buy 3 packs of brack &brew for a treat for Xmas Eve  .
you won't be disappointed here with anything all staff were friendly from.start to finish barman check in waiter service .thank you for our lovely stay !

Quiet break 

Great Inn and food and a stunning location.

Fantastic Place, Great Location, Amazing Breakfast, Lovely Staff :)

Fantastic location overlooking Ullswater and mountains beyond. Welcoming and friendly staff, room was spacious with comfy bed and clean. Breakfast was brilliant and of very good quality.
Only downsides were the shower took ages to heat, Wi-Fi wasn’t very good and there weren’t many sockets accessible for chargers etc.
Overall a pleasant stay and would return.

Great beer & food with dogs welcome 

Prior to staying here we read the reviews and there really was a range. Having stayed here it is clear people are being very unrealistic in terms of the level of quality you should expect for the money paid in this area. The room was very comfortable. The bathroom a little dated and small. Evening meal was fine and yes a little pricey
 Breakfast excellent
 I would recommend staying elsewhere and seeing if the quality for the price is better than here. We paid more than we would expect for this quality however for the quality we would be normally expect for this price your looking at a 40 percent premium

We stayed for one night. Perfect location for hikers and dog walkers and it seemed quite popular throughout the day. Staff were friendly. Our room was small but clean. Bathroom was tiny. Main course at dinner was lovely but we never got to experience dessert which was disappointing. Breakfast was also tasty and food was served quickly. I'd prefer an earlier check in than 4pm and a later checkout than 10am

Nice pub and clean rooms

 I found this available at the last minute due to horrendous rain. we decided to have a night stay here. Good food, great views if you stay in rooms over looking the lake, back rooms over look a field full of sheep, poor signal for phones & TV wasn't great either. So lay watching the sheep all night 

Rooms a bit smelly and could do with updating. I felt like I was in my nannas' back room, worn-out carpet old tatty furniture,the bathroom was huge, and needs taps sorted out.
Loose floor boards in rooms which kept us awake most of the night when people walking back & forth we  could here when other rooms where on toilet, flushing the chain and pipe going when they used water very annoying when you get disturbed sleep.

The bed... well, double bed with a super king duvet extra thick, and the spring just popped and made a noise  every time you moved very uncomfortable and both woke up with a stiff muscles

Couldn't fault the food, the breakfast was very good 
Would I stay here again ? Yes! If the rooms were updated and more comfortable for price you pay
