Stopped for 2 nights at the onsite lodgings whilst visiting family. The pub is now under new ownership and has undergone a full refurbishment. The new food menu was delicious and I’d highly recommend anyone in the area to stop by and enjoy the hospitality.

Went for my birthday dinner. Refurbished to a very modern standard. Clean, comfortable, nice atmosphere, very welcoming and friendly staff. All fresh, local produce cooked on site (not microwaved). Super menu with a variety of dishes, not complicated, neatly presented and good pricing.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening and I would definitely recommend it.

New owners, pleasant, good-willed people who have to recover from the negative reviews of the previous owners and are working hard on it. Cozy pub with good food. Easily accessible rooms on the ground floor with parking space in front of the door. Near Cambridgeshire. All this for a very reasonable price.

 A choice of roast beef or Pork.
it was all nicely cooked and generous size portion of meat with plenty of gravy. 
It was hot and tasty, the separate bowl of cauliflower cheese was a nice touch!
Served drinks by warm and friendly lady behind bar.
would definately visit again when next in area!

We stayed at the pub with my wife’s sister and brother-in-law.The pub is within easy reach of Anglesea Abbey and a short journey into Cambridge by bus.The rooms were small but very clean and all with en suite.The four of us had dinner and breakfast at the pub.The portions are large especially the full English breakfast.I understand Alice and Martin have just taken over.They are a very friendly family.Good luck in all you do in the future.

This popular village pub has been in the doldrums for ages. Undrinkable beer and zero clients. But the new landlady, Alice, has very quickly turned things around. There is now a warm welcome and decent ales. The pub often has two guest beers, Timothy Taylor and GhostShip. As it is a Charles Wells pub they also have to offer two Charles Wells beers, which are an acquired taste. Alice is now offering good food and plans to expand the menu. The pub has 7 rooms which are well used by tourists and business visitors. It is a popular alternative to staying in the much more expensive hotels in the centre of Cambridge. Swaffham Bulbeck has an hourly bus service into Cambridge and is only 15 minutes drive from the Newmarket Road 'park and ride' site. 
All in all, us villagers are delighted to see the pub once again being well run. May it long continue. 

We stopped off at the black horse on Sunday lunchtime after having a look around Anglesey abbey . It was our first visit to the pub and certainly won’t be the last . We had a great chat with some of the village residents and ended up having a nice bite to eat . The staff were very friendly and we will definitely be returning. 

Popped in today just on the of chance, started chatting with Martin, family and I ended up having lunch which was fantastic. Great customer service, we will visit again. Thank you for a memorable lunch.

From the warm welcome in the traditional English pub bar to the delightful courtyard style rooms our stay could not have been better. Andy and Mo are super hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We had our two small dogs with us and the place really is dog friendly (not just dog tolerant). We ate dinner and breakfast in house and both were excellent. The menu was large enough to be interesting but small enough to be reassuring . This was a visit to meet our new grandson, I'm sure there will be more and we will certainly be happy to stay here every time.

A lovely comfortable room with everything you need, and a lovely welcoming pub run by the loveliest couple that cannot do enough for you. Fantastic value for money, lovely location, stunning home cooked food and a lovely all round atmosphere. Perfect little spot for a night or short break away. 
Special note: if you happen to be around on a Sunday do not miss the opportunity to sample the amazing home cooked roast dinner! 🤤

Super restaurant in a pub

Well the new owners are making our little local pub absolutely fabulous. The rooms are wonderfully clean and neat. The food is out of this world the goat’s cheese starter is beautifully light and the main of duck and lamb is sooooo tender and tasty. Then the blackberry and Victoria plumb crumble was almost as good as mine. What can I say I wish you every success.

The Black Horse is under new management.
The Landlady is so helpful and the rooms are comfortable.
The food is good 'pub grub' and the beers we drank were fine.
After chatting seems there are upgrade changes coming so we look forward to returning to clock the improvements.

Good place to stay and eat

Sunday Lunch

Always made to feel welcome, good choice of well-kept beer, small but good menu.  Nice place to be whether for an informal business lunch or dropping by after a walk. Friends stayed in a room during a visit to the area and it was clean and comfortable.
