Fairshiels B&B

Fairshiels is actually on the A68 heading eastish from Dalkeith, through the village of Pathhead, and a couple of miles beyond at the village of Fala, which took a bit of finding on a wet blustery night! However the welcome was good, and the bedroom ticked all the boxes with a really comfortable bed and perfect en suite shower-room (room 5). We were here for two nights, in order to go to a wedding at Oxenfoord Castle the other side of Pathhead, and it was a good choice of accommodation. The house, possibly an old farmhouse or inn right on the roadside, was spotlessly clean, the breakfasts were delicious, and Annie was a lovely hostess, chatting to us at breakfast, and, going beyond the call of duty, providing me with some handcream! And a hairdryer. There's a tv room, a lovely looking garden at the side of the house, plus a kiddies' playground just next door within Fala village. On up the road at the top of Soutra hill is the House of Soutra, a coffee shop with fabulous views on a good day even to the Forth and beyond.
