A lovely cottage with lakeside views. Forest trail on our doorstep with a large enclosed field perfect for walking the dog.
If you want a quiet break this is great. 
Everything you need is available in the cottage - although TV downstairs only had BBC TV and radio channels. Not an issue as we went there to walk. 
An excellent base for walks and Darley Dale and Matlock within a short drive for any shopping

Beautiful place and the host was absolutely amazing 5 STARS* thanks again!! We will be back and hope to see more of the area and spend time around the fantastic lake and woodland areas, bbq and use the fantastic fire pit 

Just returned from a fabulous few days away at Darwin Lake Holiday Village. The cottages were clean and well equipped and the staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely return. 

Absolutely fantastic. Good value for money very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely quiet location. Although it was February the cottage was lovely and warm. Me and my husband loved it and hopefully will be returning.

We had our wedding at Darwin Lakes in July 2022. The setting is beautiful and the staff were brilliant. We stayed for 3 nights and the staff couldn't do enough for us before and during our stay. We had a small family wedding and the venue was perfect for us. The hall was beautifully set out and the staff did everything to ensure the day was stress free. The fact that the cottages and Darwin Hall was dog friendly was really helpful as well. If you're looking for a venue for a small or a large wedding, I would definitely recommend Darwin Lakes. The location provides opportunities for some beautiful photos. The whole stay was extremely relaxing and the wedding day was perfect despite it being 38 degrees!

Stayed here with my wife for 3 nights, I cannont fault it, we stayed in the Peveril, nice lake right outside, where you are greeted with a friendly duck saying hello each morning.

Kitchen had all we needed, aswell as bathroom facilities, parking was right next to the accomodation with more parking just a stone throw if needed, nice walk round the lake also, which brings you stratight back to the Village, I have seen allot of people complain about mobile / wifi signal, yes there poor phone signal but that didnt fault it for us, that was one of the reasons to stay here, it's out of the way where you can relax, we will defo be returning, I even left my own pillow there, I phoned them when I got home, and they were nice enough to send it to me.

Booking directly with Darwin Lakes was very easy and spoke to friendly staff. subsequent questions were answered very quickly. Good directions to find the Holiday Village and arrangements made if you get here late as key safe at each property. The cottage was perfect for us, plenty of room and well decorated. Lots of crockery, glasses etc and gorgeous bed linen. The beds were soft and we all slept very well. Great amenities provided. It was nice and quiet at night. Wifi not the strongest but we managed to do want we wanted with no problems. Not very good phone reception so we called over whatsapp and used our phones during the day. A lot of the peak district does not have wifi or reception so we were pleased with what was provided. Will definitely come back to Darwin Lakes again.

Cannot fault this place. Beautiful location and setting. The cottage was stunning very clean and beautifully decorated with everything you need. The staff were lovely, can’t wait to go back, would totally recommend.

Got this at the last minute, by mo0y company for two week contract in nearby Chesterfield .cant express how well run, tidy and superbly decorated the accommodation is. Within easy travelling distance to matlock, matlock bath and chesterfield  not forgetting chatsworth stately home! Perfect location for wild life and fishing enthusiasts,  10/10

Short break in the Peak District

We stayed in Haddon.  It has a lovely view of the lake and convenient for carpark.  We had a very warm welcome on a horrible day weather wise, thank you.  There were a couple of minor issues which were dealt with immediately.  The place is a bit knocked about in some areas but is spacious and warm.  The internet and phone reception both our own and that supplied were a bit hit and miss, the upstairs front bedroom appeared to have the best reception.  The walk around the lake is pleasant, lots of greenery and holly if you’re there near Christmas, I don’t think they’d miss it!  The road up to the site is very winding and steep.  The giant tv with Netflix meant I could catch up with the Crown, it’s a pity there weren’t a few instructions for us technophobes we need help !  I would have welcomed a pint of milk in the fridge rather than the half a dozen tubes similar to those found on hotel hospitality trays, also if you’re only going to leave two dishwasher tablets it’s hardly worth it.  The oven is good and fast to heat up, the hob not so good.  Again a few instructions wouldn’t go amiss.  I enjoyed my stay and plenty to do in the area.

Peveril cottage

Not good, guven Dovedale is the top cottage.Black mold, spiderwebs, dirty furniture, dirty walls, dirty tables, blocked shower(maintenanceman said he'd had leaks on both onsuites which were ongoing), vomit outside( took two men to scub clean), rubbish piled up on the lake walk , gaps in windows so heating had to be on.

Do not book, filthy.

Uncomfortable  and unstable bed, tired and spartan decor. Rickety furniture, no soft furnishings or pictures on wall, made the place lack warmth. Rusty radiator in bathroom. No welcome pack.The cottage requires an update. Cooker had a single shelf, no kitchen spray. Dirty washing and open rubbish bag greeted us on outside upon arrival.

Disappointing

We stayed here in 2018 when we got married nearby. We booked a few cottages for the wedding party and it was a fantastic stay. We decided to return with our children this year. Unfortunately it appeared as though the site and cottages have not undergone any maintenance since we visited nearly 7 years ago. Our cottage was extremely run down, needs redecoration throughout and similar to other reviews was filthy. My wife got broken glass in her foot within an hour of arriving, and I ended up cleaning the whole downstairs floor on my hands and knees with antibacterial wipes. Each one came up black.

It is a shame as the location is great and if the site had been looked after it really would be idyllic. Unfortunately building rubble and other waste has just been dumped around the periphery, spoiling what would be a nice nature path.

Overall very disappointed, we just tried to spend most of the time away from the cottage and just went back to sleep.
