We stayed at Clay Hall House for two nights and couldn't be more positive about our time there. From a welcoming reception to the the well appointed bedroom, bathroom and lounge area. Everything was thought of and catered for by Simon and Angela. There was a good choice for breakfast and everything we had was delicious. Also Grace the dog lived up to her name and was a true softie. There was also lots to do in the area including the historic town of Lavenham. We would highly recommend staying here.

We made a return visit to Clay Hall House last weekend for a Valentine's Day getaway. The room was as lovely as we had remembered, with new additional touches, like a fridge, bathrobes, fresh flowers and a box of chocolates. The breakfast also did not disappoint. There was such a variety of things to choose from - all delicious! The hosts were so welcoming and  happily catered for specific dietary requirements too, which was great. In all, my husband and I would definitely stay here again!

host Simon met us on arrival and showed us round. Amazing place nearly 500 years old! Nice bed and amenities in room, watch out if you are over 5 foot as the doorway into the bedroom is low, as you’d expect for a house so old! I’m 6’1” but don’t worry you soon adapt. Bathroom is warm and lovely with a shower and roll top bath, lovely. 
In the morning the snug, which is part of your quarters for the price you pay, is converted by the hosts into a breakfast room and I can’t speak highly enough of this. The layout, facilities, menu, etc were something I’d expect if I was in a large hotel chain or large party, except the quality of the amenities on offer far outweighs what you’d expect there. 
Beautiful stay, beautiful place, the town centre is a 5 minute walk, the medieval towns of Lavenham and long Melford a 10 minute drive. 


a lovely stay. welcoming hosts (and dog), superb breakfasts and facilities were spotless. furniture and bed very comfortable. the added bonus of a separate snug/living room where we could relax and watch tv was great.

The house is from the 16th century and is full of old beams and character. King room has exclusive use of a beautiful lounge and the bedroom is large and comfortable with a great en-suite which has a roll top bath and shower cubicle. Hosts are lovely, friendly and welcoming and breakfast was superb. Under 10 minute walk to pub in the village. Visit Lavenham which has over 350 listed houses. Thoroughly recommend this B&B.

We stayed for a week at this splendid B&B near where I was born and grew up. The room was very spacious and clean with all the amenities. Simon and Angela were terrific hosts and served wonderful full “Suffolk” breakfasts while offering lighter fare as well. The 500 year old building is nestled in a cul de sac-quiet and picturesque.  We look forward to staying here again.

Right from when we first arrived, we were made to feel very welcome, Simon and Angela keen to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were amazed that the east side of the house was given over to us entirely, comprising a warm snug, airy orangery and comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Breakfasts were superb, Simon spending time to enquire as to our day plus offering helpful suggestions. You can even walk to the excellent pub in 20 minutes! 
For us, it was a home from home in such a wonderful old property. Thoroughly recommended

Simon and Angela were very welcoming and during our stay all of our needs were met. The accommodation was spotless, we had the use of our own sitting room and the beautiful orangey.
Clay Hall House is a gem.

Angela and Simon made us very comfortable and at home. They were very welcoming and helpful before we even arrived through email contact. It was delightful to have our own sitting room AND orangery so we could relax in the evening. I could even read my book in the Orangery while my husband caught up on the sport on the television in the lounge! The outdoor space looked very nice but the weather wasn’t conducive to sit out there. However, their chickens tried to come in that way to lay their eggs which, by the way, were delicious at breakfast. We enjoyed a good choice of breakfast which was cooked to order in addition to cereal, delicious yogurt, fruit juice, fresh fruit and toast. A continental breakfast was available too. The room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable but as it was an old Tudor cottage we did have to remember to stoop to get through the door and I’m only 5 foot 3! Everywhere was very clean.
Simon and Angela were there if we wanted to chat and were helpful with their recommendations and information about the area. However, they were also discreet when we were deep in our own conversation.
We could walk to the local pub for a meal or drive to a many pubs and restaurants. There’s plenty of interesting properties to visit very close and pretty villages to explore. We had a lovely relaxing interesting long weekend and have already recommended it to our friends. Thank you Simon and Angela. 


We were a party of four and stayed here for two nights whilst at a wedding in the area.Simon and Angela were very welcoming, providing us with tea and biscuits after our long drive and nothing was too much trouble , the rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.The use of the snug when we came home at night to sit and chat and have a drink really was a lovely touch, the house is so full of character and it really made for a lovely weekend,so good to see people like Simon and Angela providing such a great service at very affordable prices.
