Second time we stayed at this hotel and like the first it's been a fantastic 4 days, Tony (manwel) and Elaine are fabulous and can't do enough for you, lovely clean rooms and super comfy beds. I would recommend sundowner to anyone try it out if you are ever this way you'll love it

Checked in Friday for a 2 night stay, we booked for 3 adults, room was perfectly big enough for us, clean, the building itself is beautiful, oldy worldy vibe to it which we love, bathroom was lovely and clean with plenty of towels. We had the triple room it had a double bed and a single, must say one of the comfiest beds iv ever slept in, 4 brilliant pillows I believe we're duck feather which you sink into. There is a main road outside but it didn't effect us sleeping and we had the windows open all night. The bar and restaurant is not open but Burham is just down the road 2.6 mile away and highbridge has places to eat. Bit of advise, if you want snacks and drinks grab them before you go to the hotel as the shop is a bit of a walk away, All in all we enjoyed our stay the owners are lovely too, very helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable the bathroom looked brand new. Staff friendly but a little unorganised. Don’t think any areas down stairs are in use but we just wanted to stay in the room anyway. For the price I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay again.

The Sundowner is a very comfortable hotel at a reasonable price.  The room was small but very clean and tidy.  The shower room was very well fitted out - and also very clean. There are good places to eat nearby - but no facilities or services at the hotel.

The room was clean, neat and tidy. I particularly liked the white brick tiling in the bathroom. I had a good night's sleep but did notice that there is traffic noise and that there are no blackout linings/blinds behind the curtains. However, a sleep mask and ear plugs would sort this out easily if, indeed, it is a problem.

There is a good car park. 

Breakfast is, indeed, extra but the cooked breakfast is served hot which often not the case in other establishments.

Overall, well, I have booked to stay there again. That should sum it up nicely.

Just What You Want From A Budget Hotel

we booked a 1 night stay in the family room . on arrival we were greeted by the owner  Elaine,  we asked could we book 3 breakfasts, she explained what would be available, she stated she did not like getting up early, would 09.00am be ok , we said that would be great, the room was clean must acceptable, when we went down for breakfast the following morning as arranged, we were met by Elaine asking are we ready to settle the bill, i replyed yes , which way is the breakfast room, she replyed did you book breakfast? we replyed yes with you, she replyed she did not see us yesterday, i replyed you did , you told us your name, she said she was sorry she could not remember, with that we settled the bill and drove into Burnham and had a great breakfast . a little confusion to say the least.

Breakfast issue

The Sundowner  is a clean and tidy Hotel, but don't go if you are expecting a drink at the bar. The owners have decided to do rooms only with an added cost for breakfast. The lady owner was friendly and attentive at breakfast. We stayed in the family room which had one double, one single and a bunk bed, tea and coffee, en-suite bathroom (awful noise to the flush, don't flush over night) there was a TV and a hair drier also. Nice clean room near to the main road so there is traffic noise. Full English breakfast cooked to order ( tell them you want a breakfast the evening before) cereal and toast too. Plenty of off road parking. An okay place to stay.

One night family time.

We had communicated with the hotel time etc we would get there, when we arrived there was no one around, we shouted, rang the front door bell, in the end had to phone them to come & see to us. Then we were asked what room we were in, we had booked it a while ago & were walking for charity to Lands End so had been in a dif place every night... as the owner surely he should know from the name who he’s booked in what room. He left us for another 20 mins to find his “check in”book which he found in the laundry hamper!!! It was all a little weird. Basically this hotel seems to be used by contractors working in the area, that’s why they can charge what they want as most people aren’t paying. We had gone to bed & then there was a knock on the door about 10pm asking us to pay!!!
Having said that it was clean & comfy enough eventually when we did sort our room out were were given a cold drink which was thoughtful.

Weird workers B&B that charges you extra for one of the B’s!!

The host was seemingly drunk and swearing as soon as I entered.

“How long are you staying for” He asks
“Just the one night, I’m travelling for business” I replied
“F****** hate people like you” was his reply 

Shocked I asked if he talks to all his guest like that. He said “If I need to, yes. And if you don’t like it, f****** do one”

So I did!!

Just don’t stay there!!

If the car park had actually been a car park and not a junk yard, if the "hotel and restaurant" actually had a restaurant instead of what looked like tables piled high with left overs from a jumble sale, if the bar had actually been a bar then we could perhaps have overlooked being met at the door by a somewhat inebriated gentleman who apologised for having fallen asleep and not hearing the doorbell. He took us to our room, which surprisingly was clean and had a comfortable bed but little else. One cup was provided alongside the kettle in spite of the fact that we had booked as a couple. Our host repeatedly told us to "mind the step" and to remember to lock the outer door every time we went out. When asked about the restaurant he told us that there were takeaways in the area. We asked where and he said "go down the road, down the road, and bumph! Takeaways". My husband asked what kind of takeaways, were they Indian, Chinese, fish and chips? To which he replied "Takeaways". He then informed us that we were welcome to bring food back to the room and if it got cold we could warm it up in the microwave under the stairs. It was apparently a state of the art microwave because they were posh. There was a TV in our room, strategically placed in front of the dressing table mirror, rendering the latter unusable. The TV itself was fairly useless as it only received news channels. Two other people arrived by van in the outside junk yard, one of whom turned out to be the owner, who was also drunk and swore at the other chap for getting in his way. The view from our bedroom window could have been pleasant were it not for the statue of a dog cocking its leg up against a lamppost and a dead parrot on the picnic table, surrounded by numerous redundant wheelie bins, old car batteries, rabbit hutches, piles of wood and other indiscriminate objects. To our right there was a stack of pigeon coops, complete with pigeons.
