351 reviewsFirst things first this is a clubhouse not a hotel, and it has a great atmosphere and a quaint building. The location and views are wonderful. Also if you are a member then the members room is a real highlight - a quiet place to read the paper or a book and enjoy coffee and cake with amazing views. Our bedroom had recently been redecorated (by the look of it) and was well equipped with everything we needed and was quite nice. The size was ample. The only criticism would be that the window was drafty and the beds were too firm. The bathroom was a bit dated and could do with refurbishment also the toiletries were missing when we arrived and we had to phone reception for them (later everything turned up except for the soap which didn't appear until the next day!). Early in the morning we could hear people walking up and down the creaky staircase above our room but apart from that no noise issues. The breakfast was very good (especially the kippers!) apart from the scrambled egg which tasted strange, and there was plenty of choice. Décor of the restaurant could be improved also it was closed for dinner both days we were there so we had to eat elsewhere. The bar is nice (food and ambience) though the service was inconsistent. While we were there they told us they're closing end of Jan for a refurb, but there's no info on a reopening - I hope they do reopen as it's a great site and would be a real shame to lose it.
