A fantastic weekend here with the Chester Ramblers. Lovely views, super comfortable beds, fantastic food & daily picnic lunches. The staff were wonderful ...very attentive...particularly  Adrian. ..thankyou all staff. We were extremely well looked after

A lovely warm welcome from Paul and his team. Always willing to do extra for you. A fabulous room with views down the lake.  Daily fresh bread (different every day) was just fabulous, although my waistline is testament to my overindulgence.

A lovely old house that is maintained the character . The food was wonderful and the staff both made us laugh kept is cosy warm had just cared for . The background staff that are seldom seen cannot be forgotten as they work away to make the place run well.
Gemma and Sahara  made us feel as if we were catered for .
Nothing was a problem or difficult to get for you. Just a lovely place with HF working wonders with the walking and the staff keeping the none walkers very happy too

Have to say I am still in recovery from all that delicious food. The effort to provide vegan and vegetarian alternatives was hugely appreciated. Meals were, invariably, tasty and well prepared . The staff are delightful. Ever ready with a smile and very willing to help bewildered guests last on their way to their rooms!
The rooms themselves are very comfortable,  with plenty of drawer space etc in the premium room I had. For walkers one of the things of most significance is the constant hot water. Great for those showers which are inevitably required after a day on the hill.
The bar is well stocked and I can especially recommend the Lakes gin, served with one from a selection of fevertree tonics.
The grounds are well worth a wander, the walled garden being an especial hit with me. There is even a ha-ha. Rabbits, grey squirrels, deer, all resident or regular visitors. Stunning views over the lake and a shirt walk into Coniston, along paths safely separated from the road.

stayed here for a group yoga and walking holiday. The rooms are fabulous, comfy beds and very clean. Food was amazing and all set in the most perfect location with a view of the lake. We will be back!

Have just enjoyed a walking holiday here.  Very comfortable room, we went for the middle price range, great view of the lake, and plenty of space for a couple of armchairs, and a good walk in shower with constant hot water.  Good boot room for drying walking boots etc out after a day on the fells.   Good to have a range of walks available to choose from each day, for differing levels of ability.

Staff could not have been more helpful. Very comfortable hotel, with good food. Lovely location. With beautiful grounds including an arboretum. Great walking in the area. Guided walks led by great volunteers

Another winner. This is our second HF holiday and we weren’t disappointed.

The group and the leaders were a great bunch, huge characters all out for a bit of a laugh. The hotel, food and staff were flawless. Thoroughly recommend a visit. Loved the grounds particularly the Sequoia - already booked Longmynd and Hadrians Wall with HF

Leased from the National trust, MonkConiston Hall is an excellent base in the southern Lakes for a walking holiday. An old property, the rooms are varied. The room which I had in one of the cottages was a double with a small extra charge for single occupancy. It was excellent with a well furnished bathroom and walk in shower. It was noticeable that both the bedroom and bathroom were heated in the early morning: excellent! The cottage was a couple of minutes from the main building but not a problem as it was opposite the drying and boot room!
The food was excellent: breakfast was varied and substantial, the packed lunches were also varied and substantial and the dinners were also varied and very good. You had to order your choice of packed lunch and dinner the night before but that was easily managed.
The bar (which opened at 6.00pm) had a draught beer and a wide choice of other drinks. Meals were taken at tables of twos and fours and not pre-assigned which encouraged the easy mixing of the guests.
Three different walks were available each day: simply put, hard, medium and easy. Because of the nature of the Lake District (hills) they all required proper walking equipment and all of the guests were established walkers. The leaders were very experienced and outstanding in all respects. Everybody was very helpful and friendly.
This was my first H F Holiday and I can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations in all respects.
The venue had obviously had to make alterations to their normal procedure to cope with Covid 19 restrictions and it was all handled very well.

Rented by holiday fellowship from national trust. Good place to stay when on there walking holidays. The car parking could be improved. it pre dates cars. Some rooms are away from the main house so be prepared to walk to main house. walks and organisation are excellent. HF are organise 'package' type breaks which are excellent to either groups couples or  solos. It is not a conventional  hotel you have to be prepared to socialise.  Nice thing for those on there own is the evening group activities. Bar prices not to bad. Become a share holder save on no booking fee and discount on drinks in bar.Food tea all inclusive.
