Superb Sunday lunch , wonderful staff and a fabulous contemporary ambience. The waitresses were warm and friendly making our wonderful food experience a completely pleasurable one. The whole experience simply oozed quality. 

Great atmosphere, great staff and really good beer and pizzas. We went to the Carpenters for a work social event as we wanted something informal and relaxed. There were about 30 of us. We pre ordered pizzas and occupied quite a large space for drinks (many!) and pizzas. Lots of smaller tables which meant people could move around and the pizzas came pretty quickly once they got going. Such good value

I stopped at the Carpenter’s Arms for a night and couldn’t fault it. 
There was a warm welcome, the room was spotless and quite quirky making the most of the old building’s design. 
The food, whilst a little pricey, was excellent and well worth the money. 
Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Carpenter’s Arms either for food, or an overnight stay.

Consistently good. Their pizzas are amazing and Sunday lunches scrumptious. The staff are always friendly, even when enforcing Covid rules. Regular events, such as quizzes, help create a good community spirit. 

I've been to the Carpenters Arms (not to stay) several times over the last couple of years and always enjoyed my visit and thought how nice the place was. Normally I go when they have a local band playing. Always a good choice of beer (I've no idea about that lager stuff) and I ate there for the first time at the weekend - very nice it was too and not overpriced. Overall a nice real "Pub"

This pub is within walking distance to the center of Cambridge. The rooms were clean and spacious and in the evening we enjoyed a pizza in the pub. There was a lot of noise from the live music (something we had not expected on a Monday night), but it stopped at 10.30, and we could go to sleep. Service was excellent

A very special experience

The place is off the beaten track in a small sleepy village which may seem to be a good thing a first sight but and a big but 
If I had to hear about the managers conversation about his house restructuring  anymore i think I’d of chopped my arm off and beat myself to death with the soggy end 
We went for lunch and I was surprised that the chef used he’s hands to place over priced food  on to plates the other person helping behind the counter seemed more interested in her phone than working i wondered if she took her phone to the toilet with her as it seemed to be attached to her hand like a prosthetic limb 
We had to take the milk for tea and coffee to our room ourselves most b@bs would have it in the room before you get there 
Trying to understand the bill was something else two pints and two gins £30 the one thing that was really good about the place was the bed I did sleep well yes that right it wasn’t all bad 
This is part of the chestnut group I hope that the others aren’t run like this one

Sleepy hollow

We were warned of the wait so that was fine, but the longer you wait the more you see and hear. The Carpenters has an open kitchen and you don't want to thear the f word and the staff being told off. We like our food to be cooked with love, no anger! The fish was tasteless and to be fair they credited this dish on the bill They have done a nice job of the refurbishment but they need to sort the lighting, much to bright. Credit to the manager who dealt with our concerns very well.

Early days but needs to improve

I really liked this place when it first opened but have to say it has got progressively worse. The back gate is now always locked which makes it very hard for my friend to access as a wheelchair user. The last few times I’ve come the veggie choice I wanted has not been available. There has also been a tendency to have very spicy veggie dishes. And today we were served garlic bread which was so burnt it was impossible to cut. No apology from staff. 

Getting worse

This north Cambridge local has changed hands more than once and has shut altogether for makeovers.  It had a traditional oldfashioned bar with a good range of beers, comfy seats, long tables at the far end,a small homely dining area, home cooking,  and out the back a pizza oven, in a word a friendly local with bags of atmosphere of the sort that hardly changes. It is unrecognizable now with bomb-site decor, distressed furniture, stenciled adverts, rough drinking area. Maybe aimed at a teenage clientèle.  On a warm summer afternoon it just looked a right mess.
