YHA Coniston Holly How - Hostel

Great value for money, a wonderful location, good fun with good company.
Coniston offers a great choice for walking and a good selection of shops and pubs without being too touristy.

We had a lovely stay at YHA Coniston. We had a private room (for 4 people) for one night and had an absolute blast. It was clean, cosy and what you would expect from a YHA. 

When visiting the lakes, we typically opt for more remote YHAs - but, we are glad we spiced it up a bit and came here,, with a small walk to the quaint hustle and bustle of Coniston with the lovely pubs and restaurants. 

We had fun and are all so glad that we have the YHA.

Great location, so close to the mountains, very peaceful. Lovely atmosphere. Rooms were clean and had a charging points. Having dry room was super handy. Amazing value for the money spent. It was just fantastic experience as always with YHA. Highly recommended !!!

Lovely building. Incredible value at £15.00. No issues.

2 nights' stay here on a short trip away. Booking was easy, as was check-in. We'd booked beds in dorm rooms - comy beds, decent space for 8-bed dorms, and well heated. The self catered kitchen was well equipped and there certainly was a friendly atmosphere amongst ourselves and other YHA guests using the space.
It's in a great location for exploring the beautiful local area.

Just spent 2 excellent nights here. A great welcome for a bedraggled biker soaked from the rain. Staff and facilities spot on. Breakfasts tasty, rooms clean and tidy. All in all a great place to stay despite the weather. Shout out to Jo, the manager and Chris the cook, who offered to help when the water got into the older Beemer. I did get home ok, by the way! The location is perfect with many eateries a stones throw away. The staff is very warm and welcoming and the beds are super comfy. Lived the cosy and comforting vibe of the hostel.

4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed here for a short break in February and it was fantastic. The house and facilities are great, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful. It's also a great base to explore the stunning Lake District. Well definitely be back.

Loved my stay at Holly How.  The staff are so kind and friendly and made me feel so welcome, so thank you - you are a great team!  Holly How is a grand old house with a cosy feel and it is only a short walk from Coniston village and the beautiful and serene Coniston Water.  I fell head-over-heels for the local Herdwick sheep, who are big softies with the bonniest faces.  This has to rank as one of my all-time favourite stays in a YHA hostel and I look forward to staying here again next year.

Stayed here for the first night of The Cumbria Way. No complaints. Friendly staff. Clean and spacious. Excellent value for money.

YHA Coniston Holly How is a lovely little hostel, perfectly placed for exploring the Coppermines Valley and Coniston Fells, or for activities on Coniston Water.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and the communal areas were clean and comfortable, with plenty of sockets/USB ports for charging devices.
The Drying Room was excellent (a blessing when camping).
The camping area at the front of the hostel was relatively small, but the pitches were nice and level and there were some very handy picnic benches. Ear plugs are advised if camping as some of the hostel guests can be very noisy around the car park area (and the owls are pretty loud in the small hours of the night). An eye mask is also recommended as there are bright security lights that shine onto the camping area.
Nonetheless, it's definitely a hostel that we will visit again.  The mole that decided to pop up several molehills under our tent was an unwelcome camping "first", but we can't really hold the YHA responsible for the local wildlife!

Hidden Gem

It's a shame the secluded woodland garden area is now being used for ugly glamping pods and campers are relegated to the lawn by the car park. This was handy for getting things from the car but it meant we got all the noise of people coming and going until late in the evening. There was also some bright lights from the hostel shining on the tents. That said, this hostel is a gem, on the edge of the village and about fifteen minutes walk to the shops. It's grounds are very beautiful with some huge trees. The facilities are all clean and well kept. Staff and other visitors were very pleasant to meet. The self catering kitchen is well equipped and the lounge is comfortable with big sofas. I hope the YHA never changes from its high standards. I just wish we could camp round the back! But thank you for a good stay.

Good stay but with one criticism

Great location, lovely, well equipped hostel. The only thing I would change is the lack of plug points. All the beds had USB ports but none for actual plugs, there was only one in our dorm and a few others dotted around the hostel. Not everyone has a charger with a USB and if you're heading out for a day in the hills you need all devices fully charged for safety

Great youth hostel, well located for Coniston for walks and fun on the lake. Fantastic staff - friendly, efficient, welcoming. Lovely atmosphere, nice lounge/bar with games. We stayed in a tipi which worked well for a family of four plus dog. Cosy inside with wood burner and great area outside with picnic table and fire pit.

Great hostel, friendly staff

This was my 3rd stay here.  I’ve stayed in the tipis with family and landpods with friends.  Tipis are a little bigger and good for younger children.  The rainy weather forecast for the weekend threatened to put a dampener on our plans, but the site is in a great location and facilities are great so that the rain didn’t ruin our weekend.  Staff were very helpful and accommodating allowing us to check in slightly earlier which was a bonus!  The self catering kitchen was immaculate (ovens and fridges -no freezers-too).  Considering they must be used a lot, the upkeep is impressive!  Nice hot showers available.  A lovely walk to the lake.

Excellent base for a rainy weekend!

Arrived like 5 cold drowned muddy rats, causing a swimming pool in reception. Most hotels would have been annoyed at the mess we made. Here, no problem lads, we’ll sort that out. 
Warm informative welcome. Everything we needed. Bike shed, huge drying room, lovely hot shower and a pint. Lovely location, house and overall great service and facilities. 
Room comfortable and clean. Breakfast next morning was superb.
Can’t fault this place. Will be back 👍
