All very good indeed. Bar staff where excellent.Breakfast was good.Ales where good.Freindly locals.

Freshly prepared food, excellent service in a classic pub environment. Good value and a highly recommended watering hole if you end up at the Alton end of the Watercress Line.  Some of the other pubs in town don't offer food but luckily this one does, and it's good. 

I stayed here with my dad. My first reaction was that it was a good old fashioned pub. We arrived and managed to park the car in the small on site car park. Headed through the beer garden/patio area and checked in at the desk. We were told where to find our room and headed up to find we had been given a huge room with 2 single beds either side of a lage double, this meant that I could send dad to the other side of the room to avoid his snooring. We decided to head down for food in the bar area. The food was fantastic and I can highly recommend the prawn cocktail. Whilst enjoying our drinks we could see the locals coming in having a laugh and playing pool and darts etc. Once we had finished our food we headed off for showers and bed. Our room was directly above the bar area so understandably there was noise. I fell asleep to some sort of grease mega mix. I slept through without any disturbances. I was concerned that I would have been kept awake but it simply wasn't the case. In reply to those who have given a low score, please remember that this is a local popular pub, it is much better to hear a popular independent establishment than a quite one on the verge of collapse. Keep up the good work The Crown Inn Alton!

The best hotel i have ever stayed in, the staff are incredibly firendly and the room was soo comfy, breakfast was quick and delicious, beers were fresh.

Hotel is opposite a lovely little museum of alton history, and is dead close to the train station which is always nice

So we pulled up after the 1-1 draw and walked along to the Crown Inn. 
We had a friendly welcome and ordered our late brekky and soft drinks.
The meal arrived soon afterwards and was very tasty.
We will visit again when next down here from Surrey.

I stayed here on Saturday 17th April 20 2021 with my daughter, her fiance and a family friend. We had two double rooms and one twin room.  We were on a long distance walk (Winchester to Canterbury and had spent the previous night camping) so it was a delight to stay in a warm, clean room with a comfortable bed and a shower (no bath though).

The rooms are above a pub on the High Street - at an excellent location. We stayed on the first Saturday night after total lockdown ended so the tables outside were busy with locals having a great time. It was "noisy" for some members of our party but everything was quiet by bedtime.

We ate out (Curry Palace - nearby - also recommended) so I can't comment on the dinner but we had breakfast in the morning - for about £7.00 as I recall. This was for a "full English" and as much juice, tea, coffee and toast as we wanted. This was cooked and served by the landlord (remember it was immediately "post lockdown) and he couldn't have done enough for us.

He filled our water bottles before we left and also brought us four bottles of mineral water (as a gift) - which we declined because we were keeping our backpacks as light as possible.

Avoid this hotel like the plague if you expect gold-plated taps and uniformed footmen but if you want a value for money stop-over in Alton run by lovely people I highly recommend it...

We've just attended a function at The Crown Hotel in Alton, and I have to say that the service and food was first rate. All the staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. Customer service was top notch and the team adhered to social distancing and hygiene measures throughout our visit. There were plenty of hand sanitising stations throughout the venue. Our expectations for food were surpassed; we were served not only plenty of buffet fayre per table (fresh sandwiches, samosas, sausage rolls, onion rings, bhajis, chicken drumsticks and more), but also bowls of curry  and rice along with french fries. According to the host the cost per head was very reasonable, which included the food and exclusive use of the function room.  I would definitely recommend this venue for a private function.

Not all that many pubs these days seem to offer the reception found at the Crown. Comfortable seating & a well kept cellar makes meeting with friends, or a visitor on business feel welcomed. Talking of cellars, they have a Cellar bar which can be booked for events. Food is very good, fantastic value for money & i should know as i dine here regularly. Staff always handy to answer any questions you may have.
Ideal for quick lunch or jyst a drink to relax when out shopping, or after Market Day on a Tuesday.

The hotel provided eleven leaseholders an excellent venue for their first meeting. The staff allowed the meeting to take place in a large room which provided privacy and helped the leaseholders conduct the meeting with no interceptions.

Stayed here for one night, price was excellent, didn't have dinner here but had breakfast which was lovely and massive. Staff were pleasant. Room was clean and smelt fresh and clean. Would stay again. No complaints.

Clean and comfortable, and just what I  needed for an overnight stay.  One drawback, due to exceptionally hot weather, is that as my room overlooked the pub's outdoor seating area, opening the window meant cigarette smoke and cooking fumes came in. So I decided to put up with the heat and open the window after closing time, which that Saturday night was around 12.30. Also noisy from conversations so would not suit anyone wanting an early night.

Warm & friendly pub

What a fabulous place. Good food, a room with 15th century beams, and a fun doorway I had to duck through. Clean room. 
What to improve: They have a sign to reuse towels if hung on the rail, but the cleaner gave me clean towels everday regardless! I even put the sign on the towels as a hint, but it was ignored. I tried. 
The room desperately needs lighting, especially as the original window is tiny - the single 15watt bulb did nothing, so I had to use the shower room light all the time. 
Good: There was a pedestal fan for which I was grateful.
