Tarangire Sopa Lodge

We had a wonderful stay here in February 2025. Rooms were excellent and had lovely mosquitoe netting around the bed.  The pool was a treat and the main building was very impressive with awesome views from the balcony.  Staff were amazing and did their utmost to make sure we enjoyed our stay.  We follow a vegan/ plant based diet and the chef was very accommodating.  Breakfast buffet was also superb.  Happy to recommend this place without any reservations.

Very nice lodge located in a beautiful National Park!  The food was quite good and the staff was very efficient and entertaining.  Our rooms were very comfortable with good showers and they located our group together in one section of the hotel.

We were able to have a 2 night stay during our safari at this beautiful lodge.  We were met with towels and juice prior to registration, very nice after our long vehicle ride.  
The rooms were very nice with plenty of space, good bathroom amenities and hot water.
Due to the holidays, there were cocktail parties each night with traditional music and dancing with tasty appetizers and drinks.
Our breakfasts were good, we had a wonderful buffet lunch by the pool and dinner buffets had a good variety of dishes for those that like meat and those that do not.
We utilized the pool, which was great to cool off after safari (the pool is quite cold) and they had an employee there cleaning the top of the pool both times.
As we were there during the Christmas holiday, Santa met us with candy on Christmas morning and both dinners we had gifts at our dining room table.  We were also given a complimentary holiday gift.
The animals around the lodge were a hit with everyone.  The Hyrax, DikDiks, lizards, banded mongoose, monkeys and others were fun to see throughout our stay.
We were traveling as a family and it was nice that our rooms were adjacent, not adjoining.

Amazing staff and excellent service. They upgraded us to the suite when there were some insects and bugs in the rooms. The staff went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The large dining room was a pleasure. We were located very centrally in Tarangire for all wildlife sightings including a Leopard and some satiated lions.

We have stayed at this lodge four times since 2018 and each time we return we feel the same about the lodge. It is a traditional safari lodge in the sense that it has “rondavel” style chalets and the dominant activity at the lodge is the arrival, stay, and departure of guests on safari, either in small groups or in larger groups. There is a relaxed feel about the place. The staff are very friendly, and responsive if one needs assistance. The dining area is large, accommodating a sizeable number of guests. The buffet-style restaurant offers a wide variety of good quality food. The lounge area and bar are very large and spacious, so that one can always find a corner or a seat for a relaxing drink. The grounds are not large, but they blend with the surrounding bush for a feeling of being out in the bush. The chalets all have balconies with views of baobabs and other trees on the surrounding hillsides. The chalets are very spacious, divided into a sleeping and dressing area, a well-equipped bathroom, and a front area with writing desk, easy chairs and coffee maker. Every time we stay at this lodge, we look forward to the buffet lunch beside the pool as a real highlight of the stay. Another feature of the property that makes it charming is the local hyrax families and the vervet monkeys that consider the property home. A small shop in the lobby sells basic supplies as well as a modest collection of souvenirs and African articles. The staff put on a traditional song and dance performance during dinner, adding to the cheery atmosphere. 
This is not an ostentatious, “high end” lodge. Rather, it is one that makes you feel right at home in a casual setting, that celebrates African décor and good hospitality, and that leaves you feeling rested after sleeping in the large, comfortable and nicely decorated chalets.  The Lodge was slated for demolition or complete remodeling as of 2024 but it appears to still be open. We hope that the Lodge remains in its current form, even if remodeling is undertaken.

Stayed for 2 nights as part of a small group tour.  Our room was nice and clean.  Every staff is very friendly and helpful.  Love both their poolside BBQ lunch and buffet dinner served in the restaurant.  Singing by the staff at guest tables was so entertaining.  It's a wonderful experience.

The hotel is very well located and very comfortable. Staff was very friendly and the food was really nice. We absolutely loved the Tarangire National Park and saw hundreds of elephants, this is definitely our favorite parks with the Serengeti.

I very rarely give places a 5. Sopa Lodge Tarangire is clearly a 10. Great location in the park, large well-equipped rooms, delicious food, incredible staff and service. My whole 3 days at Sopa and Tarangire NP was a bit of a spurge for me, but was fantastic. I highly recommend.

People complain about no wifi in the rooms? You are in Tarangire NP!

My only issue: since Sopa does not do safaris or transportation to the lodge, they referred me to to Stephen Arwa. Arwa and I negotiated a price for my desired itinerary. I find out the day before departure that Arwa is in fact in Kenya and he has transferred the business to a Kili Beyond in Arusha. 15 minutes before departure, Kili Beyond informed me they would not honor my deal with Arwa and increased the price; I fought back, but they got a little bit more out of me. So my advice is deal with a local provider in Arusha, not Arwa or Kili Beyond.

We have previously done safaris across Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Boswana. This time, the trip went to Tanzania, specifically Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro. All were good, and Ngorongoro is a natural wonder, but our favorite park was Tarangire, which is larger, less crowded, and with multiple habitats.

Part of the amazing experience was Tarangire Sopa Lodge, which is well positioned inside the national park. The rooms are spacious and really nice, and the same is true for the public areas, including the pool. The buffet-style food is good and plentiful, especially the breakfast, and everyone in our (somewhat picky) family could find something they liked. What really stood out, though, was the staff, whose combination of professionalism, helpfulness, friendliness, and good mood was exemplary. A special thanks goes to Ako, our waiter, who is a gem.

The Tarangire Sopa Lodge was a great start to our Tanzania Safari trip.  My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights.  The rooms are excellent, the beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are very clean. The food is very tasty at the buffets along with a lot of choices.   The most outstanding thing about the lodge is its staff.  The staff are very friendly, welcoming and all of them have a great smile on their faces from the moment that you are welcomed into the hotel with refreshing towels and a welcome drink.  The entire staff sing together during dinner every night and it truly is a treat to hear them.  Our server at our table was the friendliest person in the entire hotel.  She had one of the lovliest smiles in the whole world while taking care of us at our tables during our meals.

Safari lodge in traditional style, in the heart of baobab country.

Oh my goodness this lodge is absolutely stunning. The staff all amazing and bend over backwards to help you any way they can. 
We were lucky enough to have the staff sing to us one evening. It actually made my friend and I cry, it was so beautiful. 
I am an above knee amputee and use a wheelchair in the evening and overnight. They provided ramps up to the bar and dining room 

A special shout out to Anna in the bar. She took such good care of me the one afternoon I didn’t go on a safari drive .
Motley, was amazing getting me to my room each night, down the steep hill, backwards, and smiling all the time.

Great stay, excellent food and awesome staff.

Stayed one night on a safari at this wonderful hotel.  The service was exceptional and welcoming.  The restaurant was great and the food tasty. The Lodge is surrounded by wilderness so don't be surprised to see the odd elephant whilst youre eating breakfast.  The interior design of the lobby and dining areas are as others have said, stunning.

Great stay as a safari base

It was the second hotel during our safari in Tanzania. Highly recommend. Very good management. Staff is friendly and caring. If there is a problem in the room, you can be sure it will be resolved within a few minutes. We had a lizard in the room but the staff took care of it and we never so it again. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. Special thank you to the chef for delicious food. 2 of my girls have special diet needs and the chef made sure that the girls have everting they need to make their meals enjoyable. At dinner staff gives a small performance. We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.
