Up Country

We stayed here for 2 nights. We really enjoyed our stay here as the owners were lovely and so helpful. They have their own tuk tuk which was really handy as they took us around to see the main sights. On the first night they made us delicious noodles as we arrived in the evening. It’s literally opposite the train station, we walked past it as we didn’t realised it was that close. Plenty of food for breakfast. If we were to come back to Ella we would definitely stay here again!

The hostel has perfect location, only a few minutes away (walking) from the main road with bars and restaurants in Ella. The host family was very nice and helpful, they even invited us inside their living room for a cup of tea. The room was clean and in very good state. Overall one of the best hostels we've been to in Sri Lanka, particularly because of the lovely family!

We stayed in the 4 bed room! Location is 50m from the train station. We had an amazing breakfast there and we were treated really well by Sanji (sorry for my spelling) and her family! Hot shower and best WiFi in Sri Lanka, so far. More than value for money! 

the room was fine, always really hot water, a fan and moskitos net. the breakfast was excelent  (they served pancakes and local bread, fresh fruits) the family was so nice and generous. gave us a lot of advises about attractions in the area.

This place serves excellent breakfast and cooks very well for dinner/lunch. However, I would strongly recommend doing your laundry elsewhere. I was overcharged, and my clothes was not dried nor ironed. I had to dry them myself all night using the fan - if I was informed in advance, I would have used the laundry service outside which was cheaper and did the service professionally. I also was disappointed that the hostel did not give me the best advice regarding the times of buses, and especially the costs of the taxis. Whatever they quoted me, I found the price  a third cheaper elsewhere. Otherwise, I would say that the food and wifi and mosquito nets are fine to sleep here for one night or two at most.

Ella is such a beautiful town and you can have a great time there...But just dont book a room at Up Country! We were a group of five and booked two rooms, but as we arrived the hosts could arrange only one small room and one of us had to sleep on the floor (still had to pay the full price!). After a while the owner were able to give us a second room - which was dirty. In the morning it was so loud that you had to wake up earlier than you would like to. And the breakfast was the worst i had during my two-month-travel in Sri Lanka. There are so many accomodations in Ella - book one of these :) and not Up Country!
