We had a truly wonderful 3 nights stay at the Urban Castle (aptly named due to stunning interior, period pieces and decor). 
We were a family of 4 including 2 young children. From the moment we arrived we received a very warm welcome and all our needs were tended to. 
Urban Castle is family ran and Gaya and Prasads family home. As such it was  a very home from home experience with several comfortable seating areas.
We enjoyed wonderful and freshly home cooked breakfasts and Sri Lankan themed evening meals which we and our children devoured. 
During our stay Prasad and Gaya gave us informed advice about places of interest etc. We booked a taxi which we used for the day to travel around Kandy. We visited the Botanical Gardens, Sanctuary and the viewing point. 
Cannot recommend Urban Castle enough and will definitely look to revisit. 


Hidden gem away from hustle and bustle 

Loved our stay at Urban Castle, the room was great, a big bed and extra bed for the children, lots of room for a family of 4. The hotel is a bit out of Kandy, but we preferred that as Kandy town isn't great and is was cheap and easy to get in and see the tourist places. The decor of the hotel is amazing, lots of areas to relax, we had the place to ourselves as sadly lots of people had cancelled after the April events. The best thing about the place are the owners Prasad and his family were so welcoming, very interesting to talk too and helped us with trains, taxis and generally advice. We ate at hotel both nights, the food was amazing, Gaya cooked us a range of dishes both nights and honestly it was some of the best food we have eaten. If you want to feel at home, be well fed and looked after, book this hotel. 

Fantastic Hotel

We loved our stay here. A peaceful haven out of the city. The whole place has been meticulously designed and built by the young owners who should be congratulated. We loved the aesthetic. The house so airy and light with a clever combination of modern and antique with reclaimed materials. The welcome was warm - tea on arrival. A tasty dinner was cooked in house and we ate by the terrace by the  pool - peaceful and calm. Gaya was really helpful - and we appreciated that when we said we were visiting a nearby tea factory she took us and waited until we were finished. On our final day she was kind enough to drop us up the road for the train and reminded us that we should get in touch if we ever needed help whilst in Sri Lanka.  We thank her and wish them well. As an afterthought- it was so lovely to be on the train already at Pilimathalawa a delightful small station before the madness of the crowds joining at Kandy. If you have time enjoy some snacks from the lovely  ladies around the corner in a snack canteen

Perfect place

We loved our stay in this stunning house nicely away from the Hustle and bustle of kandy. The family were very welcoming and the food was delicious - felt nice to be in someone’s home but we still had our own space. Definitely recommend

Beautiful interiors in this hotel/home from home

I ever wanted to leae this place once I arrived.  The architecture and design are simply stunning.  The beds were amazing, the bath tub unreal! The ower was a real nice guy. We loved our short stay here and wanted more time.

An art piece

We stayed at Urban Castle over Christmas and had the best time. Our hosts were attentive and friendly. The decor is beautiful and we loved the pool.  It’s some distance from Kandy but we had a driver. The local village is fun to wander around. 

We loved it here!

We arrived at Urban Castle having travelled on a long and hot train from Colombo. Our bags were quickly taken upstairs and a lovely pot of tea was brought to us. 
The space itself is incredible, areas to lounge in on comfortable sofas with interesting artwork and books to read. 
Bedrooms were spacious and cool with a large bathroom and great shower! 
The hosts could not have been more attentive and helpful, organising for us to visit the sights in a tuk tuk (tea factory, botanical gardens and Temple of Tooth) and do Knuckles before being driven to our next destination. 
Breakfasts were perfect - fruit, tea, coffee, eggs. 
Dinner was delicious - the best curries we’ve had in Sri Lanka and a nice bit of chocolate ice cream to finish.
Oh and they have a lovely do Crystal who is a delight! All in all a great place to stay a 20minute tuk tuk ride outside of busy Kandy! We loved it. Thanks again, Faye and Harry

Peace away from Kandy

About 15 minutes from the centre of Kandy is this B&B that looks like a modern art house. Everything is modern and clean, the food is authentic and the young couple is super friendly with very good English. To make it perfect, little things were missing like two small towels or a garbage can in the room.

Refuge between art and nature

Bad hotel management. The owner had already closed the door at 7:30 in the evening. At 8:00 we were in front of a locked door. There was no guard or receptionist. Fortunately, our friends were in your room and we were able to call the owner out to lock us in. The design is good, beautiful old furniture and cremated goods. But the rooms are impractical: no table, no chair, no storage space for suitcases.

Design Hotel

I've been traveling alone and I've felt very comfortable here, so much so that I had to force myself to go into the noisy candy. But taking this path is not a problem at all and shouldn't stop you from living outside. The food was spicy, whether in the morning at noon or at night. Lovefully cooked and served. The house is enviously beautiful and tasty! That's how you want to live. Another accommodation in Candy I wouldn't even consider on a next visit. I'll come back here.
