623 reviewsWe arrived early (10:30am) hoping to leave our luggage and do a bit of sightseeing before checking in. We were told that if we could wait for half an hour the room would be available. We were able to wait in the area near reception with free tea, coffee and water. They upgraded us to a superior twin room. The room was clean and spacious. There are no dining facilities but I believe it is ok to have Food delivered. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, we particularly liked Waterloo Street Hawker Centre. The hotel is very close to Bencoolen MRT station, travelling from the airport was easy. The reception is open 24 hours and the staff are polite and helpful. The only negative thing I can say about our stay is about the curtains. The ones that covered the whole window were the voile type. The ones that you would usually close at night were only there for decorative purposes. I felt a little exposed when we had the lights on at night. If we ever visit Singapore again, we would definitely try to book into The Strand. It does not look very impressive from the outside, quite plain, but it has everything we want from a hotel.
