My wife and I visited the Oostergoo Hotel for 2 days. The location of the hotel, right by the canal, is perfect. Unfortunately, the parking situation is anything but perfect. There are 5 parking spaces in the house. If you don't get a parking space from this, unfortunately, it doesn't look so good, since most of the parking spaces are only for license holders. And in the nearby slightly larger parking space you have to take a few hours off every day (but no extra points for this.) The hotel as such includes a restaurant and breakfast room has its own charm. The staff is very pleased. The dinner, as well as the breakfast table, were very good. The breakfast buffet is very good but not very nice, but it's very convenient to get a nice breakfast, but it's easy to get a good price from the kitchen and the bathroom.

A one night visit and at the cheap. Rooms are ok and staff excellent. So friendly especially Tuesday 7 July the gastheer en dame were top! Goed ontbijt. Lekkere koffie. Vlakbij het centrum va n het dorp.

Sincere gratitude to the owners and staff for a nice stay at the hotel at the end of November. I had a single room on the first floor. The stairs are really not easy especially if you climb or get down with a suitcase but I was lucky and a young man helped me get the suitcase upstairs and downstairs it is always easier. The room is clean, bedlinen and towels were good. What I really appreciated was that I could regulate the radiator as I needed. I was happy with the lamps available though one of them was a bit old and failed to get on sometimes. I wish there were a stool for the suitcase. Still it was a good stay, I appreciated quietness.

Excellent location on the waterfront.
Really nice ambiance.
Restaurant also has good menu with very good food.
The rooms and particularly the bathroom are a bit on the small side bit still managable.
Wi-fi was a bit "iffy" at times.

Excellent Location

The exterior of the hotel and its surroundings suggest that you will spend a pleasant stay in this establishment but you are quickly caught up with the reality: this hotel must be 100 years old and the decoration dates back to that time. Everything is old, the renovated rooms (or at least the shower room) are clean but horrible and dirty: old carpet bed, no wall decoration... The restaurant is under construction: it is an unnamed bazaar everywhere.

A Loathsome Stay

I stayed for two nights in this hotel invited to a working meeting. Very very courteous staff and always available in English, rooms well furnished and clean. The hotel restaurant is one of the most renowned in the place and offers dishes of local and Dutch cuisine. Everything very good. The breakfast unfortunately not continental but mostly German/Dutch but there are still yogurt, cereals and mini-croissant. Considering the Nordic standards for hotels of the same category, Oostergoo is definitely above average!

It's a great hotel. It's a great location.

My daughter and son in law just held their wedding reception in this hotel, friendly helpful staff, lovely setting, good food and drink especially the breakfast, with the hotel and rooms all feeling warm and comfortable, the decor itself does feel a little outdated but to be fair this is a minor point when considering the cosy atmosphere this hotel oozes (log fire e.t.c.) This wedding was an important event for everyone and it included German, English and of course Dutch family members, so I have to say a big thank you to this hotel and their staff who all coped extremely well under the pressure, the evening party was a great success too and I know everybody went home from Grou and this riverside hotel with some amazing memories especially the bride and groom.

A great riverside hotel.

We stayed here for one night as we like the location and the restaurant. We chose the room with a view out to the water with a tiny balcony. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The bed was a miniature double bed and offered no support whatsoever. The pillows the same. All in all, the room looked a bit tired. We don't know what the other rooms are like. Dinner was delicious and perfect, breakfast, too which is served in a room on the first floor with a lovely view onto the water.

Restaurant excellent, hotel rooms not up to expectation

This hotel is a historic place in the small city of Grou in the province of Friesland, known for it's aquatic activities during the warm season. It exudes old world charm, the location is perfect next to the lake, with their own jetty. I stayed in the hotel during the slow season, in actual fact: I was the only guest in the hotel which gave me a strange desolate impression. I enjoyed a Christmas meal with members of my family that live near by. The meal was adequate, but not excellent. The service on the contrary was more than adequate, very friendly and efficient. I stayed in a single room that was quite small, but that was not an important issue. I looked out over the lake. There are no elevators in the hotel, so those with lots of luggage should be prepared to climb stairs. The hotel has a reputation to serve a good breakfast, but since I was the only guest, this breakfast was very uninteresting. Enough bread for 10 people, a hard boiled egg, a bowl of yoghurt with watermelon and some cold cuts. No great selection of teas. The breakfast room looks out over the lake and is pleasant, I surely would want to come back in the high season, I am sure it will be a completely different experience.

Old world charm near the lake

It's a nice old hotel in front of the canal and in the center of the nice little town of Grow. The rooms are basic but clean. There is no elevator. All the staff are attentive. The restaurant has excellent food from the full breakfast to the dinner served in a cozy room with fireplace and overlooking the canal.
