6 of us stayed in 3 bunk beds for 2 nights Beds are ok, room is an average size although can feel small when all 6 are lounging around. We paid just over £45pp per night, cheap enough but for me not worth it!! Very noisy on Saturday evening, with a group of young people playing loud music until about midnight, so not ideal for those looking for a quiet night in. A lady on reception (unsure of her name) was very friendly and chatty, unlike the cleaner who tried accusing us of breaking things, and seemed like she just didn’t want to be there. Very abrupt and nasty. Stairs are very steep!!! So not great for those with any mobility issues. Location is great!!

Loads of negatives. Will not return!!

Terrible place, the owner is not very helpful either. Do your self a favor and don't stay here unless you're desperate or it's free. Even then, consider a park bench or on a street or alley or public park or train station. You've been warned !!!!!!

Don't stay here

Coming back to our room at 9pm to find someone fixing the water heater which is apparently kept in our room. 

To IBH this is fine and standard procedure. "it only happens a few times a year" that's great for everyone that isn't inconvenienced - but that wasn't us. We were made to believe we were being unreasonable to expect some level of discount on our room.

There was also a puddle of water from the air conditioning on our floor which was just left to drip with no where to go.

Ultimately left unimpressed with the general disregard to the frustrations we raised.

Would not recommend. 

Bad hostel

THIEVES! THEY ARE THIEVES AND TREAT YOU VERY BADLY! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They asked for a security deposit for your key and then go above and beyond to not give it back. I have emailed everyone called everyone and have not been able to solve this. Avoid at all costs !!!! Also, the guy at reception is the meanest person you could ever talk to.

i stayed in a room with abut 5 bunk beds.
there was a long twin basin in the room which was modern
there was a large  seperate shower room easily adjusted for hot
and a little seperate wc room nxt to it all equally modern
there were plenty of 240v outlet points for phone charging.
the rooms have their own chipped card entry you are given which also
works the main front entrance. the bedding changes are supervised

every thing you might have forgotten is for sale here.towell hire is 2 euros

These jokers cancelled my booking (which I booked well in advance at a cheap rate) four days before my trip. I suspect they end up "making up an excuse" when they're busy so they can cancel the cheap bookings, inorder to cash in on late pricey bookings. DON'T, and I really mean DON'T, book a room here. It's like amateur night, but everyday. Shameful

If there was a 0/5 option I'd use it

Have read a few reviews from people on here saying things like 'the youths at this hostel were high', 'should have lights off at 2200' etc etc. IT'S A YOUTH HOSTEL IN AMSTERDAM YOU IDIOTS, IF YOU WANT PEACE PAY 5X AS MUCH TO STAY IN A NEARBY HOTEL.

Rant over, this was an excellent hostel for the money. At the north end of the Leidsegracht within a 20 minute walk of anywhere within the canal semi-circle inc. red light district, museums, coffeeshops, zoo etc. Stayed here for a week and didn't use a single tram.

We booked out a 6-person private room for 4 nights (room 7) and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation. Would estimate the dorm to be around 150 sq. ft, with three bunk beds. This is not as claustrophobic as the other reviewers would have you believe, and by no means did i have anyone's feet in my face as some have suggested. Beds and room were cleaned to a good standard for a hostel, and the toilets and showers were cleaned every morning, although with so few serving so many people they could've probably used a clean twice a day.

Communal smoking area was a great thing for me and our group, but if you're not a fan of the smell of cannabis this maybe an issue. Again, though, if you come to a hostel here expecting anything else you're just plain ol' dumb. It has hard benches (I presume to stop stoned tourists from passing out there), a wall-mounted TV with international channels and a vending machine, as well as a nice view over the Leidsegracht. There is also a fridge and microwave in the reception area (we were initially worried about people stealing from it, but our Chocomel survived).

In all, if you're a cash-strapped tourist travelling alone or in a group with friends, this is practically ideal. 
For couples, people wanting a private holiday or people with a stick up their ass about weed - why the hell are you even looking at it?

Good for what they're asking

Great location, a lot of late night food one street down ! We had a 6 bed mixed room and it was nice! There is not a lot of plugs so I was glad I brought my portable charger. There are lockers to put your bags and the rooms are cleaned daily. We stayed for 4 days and we had new roommates every night, which means that the room in empty most of the day between check in and check out if you want to sleep in !

The smoke room is a nice play to meet people.
Would recommend !

Good hostel

We stayed here in Jan 2019. We had a ten bed dorm. Stairs very steep on arrival. Reception was very friendly. The room itself was tiny and had a sink and a shower. The shower had no curtain so bring a bikini of some sort! The room was clean enough and the hostel wasnt too loud. It cost about 20E per night which was good. The location is the best part of this hostel. Overall its basic but cheap and in a great spot of amsterdam!

Cheap and great location.

First of all, I think the hostel should be called 'stairs'. You'll know what I mean when you arrive.
They have friendly people at reception (ciao bella!) A nice (small, but nice) place to chill both for smokers and non-smokers. Very nice showers. All in all a clean and decent place in a good location. I'll be back!

(P.s: I only give 4 stars, because there was so many people snorring! I know the hostel can't help this, but it was so annoying!)

(P.p.s: they do sell earbuds along with a bunch of other stuff, candy and toothpaste and whatnot, so maybe I just should've gotten out of bed and bought some.)
