I stayed 2 nights. Am sharing what I think is optimal order from tokyo. Shinjuku to hakone train station on romancecar express, regional train from hakone-yumoto to kowakien station. Get picked up by hotel Muzo-no-to. There are 4 public baths eith different configuration and they switchover the male and female side everyday. My favorite has a plunge pool, outdoor super hot bath and a sauna and indoor warm pool. Breakfast and dinner included, and they serve at the table with   minimal English. Unlimited drinks for 60mins. 3 private baths in the garden area for couples and shy ones
 Room has a sweet and a salty snack everyday, one bottle of water, tea and coffee making facilities,  loads of towels and good climate control.  Loved it!

Got a good deal and stayed for one night, only regret about this place is not staying longer! The room was huge compared to anywhere else in Japan, and we had an outdoor bath which was luxurious, with views of the forest and the mountain. 

We were expecting the private onsen to be busy, as I think there are only three of them, but surprisingly we had no problems getting one when we wanted, and they were all really nice. I was thankful, as I wasn't quite brave enough to check out the communal onsen!  

The staff were all super friendly, although they did have a weird 'smile competition' imposed by the management which seemed a bit creepy. 

Dinner was fancy, and honestly helps to justify the cost of the accomodation. It's authentic japanese and you might be a bit challenged if you don't enjoy sashimi but there's so many different things to eat so don't worry, just be ready to get out of your comfort zone. I was surprised when breakfast was in the same format of a several course meal - I had to race through it in order to check out on time! 

Only advice is to stay for more than one night, because it was a bit of a hassle getting to and from here from the central Hakone train station. Worth biting the bullet and consider getting a taxi perhaps. Had to wait a long time for a bus in the heat, and carting luggage around the steep paths wasn't very fun. It also would've been nice to explore Hakone a bit more, but there's so much to do at the accomodation alone. Would love to come back here one day. 

Stayed here two nights while enjoying the Hakone region. Staff was helpful although limited in ability to converse in English. The Onsen provided great relaxation after a day of travel and after a day of sightseeing. The meals were excellent and bountiful. Although I did not always know precisely what I was being served I always enjoyed it and also enjoyed the experience of preparing it myself at my table. Although the Ryokan was somewhat remote the transportation system in Hakone, busses and trains is excellent 

Everything about this hotel was top notch, the rooms (we stayed in the west-building which was also newer than the east) were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff were superb and helpful towards non-Japanese speakers. The food was easily better than a lot of food you'd find in decent Japanese restaurants. 

Most importantly, the hot springs were well kept, easy to access, and perfectly convenient. Maybe it was the times that we tried to onsen, but there was never a line to access an onsen. The hotel also gives a super helpful guide on how to enjoy your onsen experience if it’s your first time!

The resort takes a while to get to during peak travel times from Odawara station but it was never frustrating because the scenery is also beautiful and relaxing. 

As first timers to the onsen experience, it was 100% worth the effort and monetary splurge to getaway from modern Japanese cities for a few days.

Stayed in 水花の庄 , very clean and mostly updated - great view facing the trees/maples, courtyard, onsen tub was ok, not the best I had.

Food quality and preparation were very decent - both kaiseki Dinner and Breakfast were well prepared

Very pleasant stay with very polite and helpful staffs, little help from a translation app on my mobile phone went a long way. The girl at the front desk was very quick to learn and used her phone to translate from Japanese to English - and we had no problem communicating since.

About $700 CDN a night for a room for two, including dinner and breakfast; had once thought it was pricey (before the trip), but still a nice experience, just the kaiseki dinner  alone is worth a few hundred dollars in Toronto

Booking process was easy. Front desk staff helpful. There was a small language barrier upon arrival but we eventually got our needs taken care of. Baths in room and public paths out in the grounds. 3 private baths to choose from (for small families or private groups) and one large Group bath, in addition to the private room bath located on the balcony of our room (one of 24 or so available in the whole ryokan). Lovely amenities available at various times (Ice pops and dinner services, etc.) Overall a great and unique experience!

Our family of 8 booked 2 rooms at Mizunoto for the onsen in Hakone.  They gave us 2 rooms ( one for 3 people with private open bath room in the new building,  and one for 5 in the main or old building). The room in the new building is fine, although the sofa bed is not comfortable for big size person. But the room with tatami in the old building is disappointing.  It was outdated and look worn.  We feel it's not value for money. We had half boarded. Food was excellent.  Staff was friendly but their English is limited.  The onsen in the old building is small. There's no room for changing or drying yourself properly.  It is an authentic rokyan.  I would recommend it for couple and stay in the new building,  otherwise you might feel cheated for the price you paid.

Hit and miss experience

We were in Hakone for the annual Daimyo Procession on November 3, a popular time to be in Hakone.  Consequently, rooms were in high demand and room rates high.  Our stay at this ryokan was the highest we’ve paid so far for a ryokan on our trips to Japan. Dinners are one of the highlights of a ryokan stay for us, but our dinner here, while generous in servings, was mediocre in quality of ingredients and preparation.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the public baths are clean and relaxing.
