The bungalow we were staying in was super cool and the family that carried it was lovely.Once we arrived, Rihan prepared a welcome drink for us while Paul prepared the room.When he finished, he showed us a map of the island and explained where to eat and drink cheaply, where to see the sunset, where to find turtles, where the current is stronger...You can see that he is passionate about what he does and is committed to the island.I don't know if it would be more painful for me to say goodbye to the island or to them and their family.I will definitely be back.

Unforgettable 

A simple authentic house with all amenities, no excess. 2st beds, conde, fan, dressing room, bathroom combined, the owners are just great mega positive people! Everything is told in detail about the island. Where, what, when, how. Good, delicious breakfasts. Bungalows are conveniently located. Close to the beach of turtles and far from the noisy places except the mosque (listen to prayers in the minarets) for a couple, three nights is a good option for such a price.

Living in a family in a separate bungalow

I traveled alone and stayed here for 4 nights. The room was basic but sufficient for my needs. It had a double and a single mattress. It was generally clean and comfortable. However, the double mattress should be replaced as the spring can be felt. The accommodation is also strategic as it is near some nice restaurants and mart.

Paul was also very friendly and accommodating. And the breakfast he prepared were pretty good.

Value for money

It is difficult to know how to rate Why Not Bungalows, if it was for the hospitality alone then it should no doubt be more than 10 out of 10. 
There are so many good things we could say about Paul and his wife Rehan. It was our first visit to the Gili's (having almost visited in 2002) and after reading the reviews we thought that it would be nice to stay at a place with a good host to talk to for advice. We are a family of 4 with two boys 11 and 13, and on day one Paul gave us the heads up on the things to see and do on the island, then took us all down the beach and took the boys for a snorkel whilst we had some quiet time to chill out - how nice is that!

The accommodation is basic but clean, and is more like a home-stay than a room for rent. It is definitely good value for the price. We loved our time there and would happily do it all over again, we felt like we were part of the island family 😊

Thank you Paul and Rehan for making our stay so memorable (already missing your Banana pancakes!), we would happily return the favour if you ever visit Nth QLD xxx

The Island Family

Stayed here for two nights in Jan 2018 and was warmly welcomed by Paul and his wife. Made us feel very welcome and even showed us down to the beach showed us where we could buy snorkels from and some of the best restaurants and also showed us a map of the island and where everything was located which was very helpful. The room was basic but adequate, the bed was comfy but the bathroom could do with a freshen up, a bit dirty and dated. The breakfast was delicious and Paul even helped us find another homestay around the corner for the same price as we wanted to stay 2 extra nights but he was fully booked. 

Friendly homestay! 

We loved this island and our bungalow with its thatched roof. Our host and hostess were absolutely delightful-warm,charming, helpful and informative. Paul is like a character out of a novel-storied, experienced,flexible, helpful and so kind.He and his wife make wonderful breakfasts which are included and you can have them at whatever time works for you.You feel like your wise cousin is giving you the inside scoop on everything you want to do .Heads up Paul: We hope to do the trip all over again in Sept. of 2018 and we will for sure stay with you. Gili T is heavenly.

Humble Paradise

I recommend these bungalows because after we stayed in different places, this was one of the cleanest and most comfortable! it's very cheap and has a very good value for money!

I highly recommend it to those looking for affordable housing.

We were super satisfied. Paul took great care of us and took us snorkeling, without him we wouldn't have seen and found the turtles so quickly. Whether it's bicycle rental, tips on good food, etc. Paul takes care of it. Breakfast is simple and delicious, for the top price. We were there three of us and would all come back again. Rooms were clean, air conditioning worked fine. Super for stays of three, four, five nights, backpacker and individualist. We felt poodle-well 😊
