Sorry about the late review Nico and Spiros! We had an amazing time here from 20th to 30th Sept, and we loved it! The family go above and beyond to make you welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. As for those moaning about cleanliness, I don't think you can have been here! Only once did we see dog poo in 10 days, and it soon disappeared. Never saw any cat poo either. If you expect 5* then you have some cheek, because it's not advertised as such. Our apartment was cleaned regularly, plenty of clean bedding and towels. Cleaners were pleasant. Rosie who made our breakfasts and snacks was amazing. Yes, it does say sc, but breakfasts are made fresh to your requirements and we enjoyed them. Not expensive either. The pool was very clean. You don't fight for sunbeds here and it's tranquil. There are obnoxious people who love to complain. I can only suggest that they go to 5* places and pay 5* prices. It was very quiet there too, and the two little dogs were attached to Nico by the hip. I would go again in preference to a 5* establishment with snotty staff. The family are animal lovers and all the cats we met were adorable.I wanted to bring some home! 
At Christmas I would like to say a huge thankyou to Nico, Spiros, his gorgeous well mannered little boys, Rosie, and all other staff at Portego.

Simply the best 👌

On arrival, I was greeted by Spiros who took me to a lovely large room with a double and single bed, a large terrace and a picturesque view out to the garden. I had lovely neighbours on either side, two Hungarians (Cia) and a Romanian couple. They were very friendly and fortunately spoke English. The hotel was far enough away from the notorious strip to discourage the 
all-night party people, which helped for a quiet nights sleep.

I had an issue with the sink in the bathroom and was immediately offered another room, but chose to stay as it wasn't a big problem for me. Although it was 'Room only', I managed to get a kettle and mug etc for essential tea in the mornings. There was a fridge, which worked fine. The staff there were all very welcoming and friendly and the bar offered very cheap (and tasty) snacks that were enough to fill you up. The lady behind the bar was very jolly and just the type you need to make conversation. I only briefly saw Spiros wife, but she was very pleasant also. Upon leaving, I unfortunately missed the bus from outside, and luckily Spiros was just passing so I asked him if he could give me a lift. He immediately said yes (Nai). Very much appreciated, and when he dropped me off he refused to take any money. Such a decent man.

Would 100% percent stay here again how it is a 2 star hotel I’m not sure family business hotel, owner was lovely and polite offered to take us to the water park and down to the strip anytime we asked, or called us a taxi everyone who worked there was polite and welcoming especially the bar tender the facilities were better than 2 star the food was excellent and the pool was nice, the rooms were cleaned everyday and left immaculate the cleaners even folded our clothes and put stuff back in place the only downside to the hotel is the walk down to the strip which can be 25 minutes apart from that would 100 percent stay again can not stress enough how good the owner and the staff were to us made our trip to zante even better yamas

Dont listen to negative comments excellent place rooms were lovely and clean staff are friendly and very helpfull rooms cleaned daily pool was excellent food was really good and not dear would definitely recommend and would definalty stay again

Excellent place

I found lots of worms on my stay! as a worm enthusiast i was very impressed, this was the perfect week for me! For all fellow wormers out there, this is the place to be. Who needs the clubs? Also forgot my worm catching gear and staff happily lended me the essentials for my worm catching needs! I found several worms, all magnificent sizes.

After reading the negative reviews, I was slightly worried before our arrival, all I can say is they are nonsense the owners, staff were great and friendly the food was nice and the rooms were cleaned daily.

The hotel and grounds are well kept as is the pool.

I wouldn't hesitate to return!!

Absolute value for money

The family were warm and welcoming to me and my son. Rooms were basic small bathroom. Take your own hairdryer as the one in the room cuts out and is like a travel hairdryer.  Pool was small but quiet. Sticit quiet rule for after 12 . Which was great as you get a sleep. 
It's a long walk to the strip but away from all the noise and carry on. 
Food was lovely especially the pizzas.

IGNORE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS- This place exceeded our expectations for a 2 star hotel. The grounds and gardens are beautiful, the whole place has a quiet village vibe to it with the 2 story buildings surrounded by trees and bushes. The pool was lovely and well mainained. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived and couldn't do enough to help. It's about a half hour walk into Laganas so you are far enough away from it to avoid the noise if you want, but close enough if that is your thing. I know the owner sometimes looks on here so we would like to say thank you for a lovely week. (only area that could need an upgrade was the bathroom but it was perfectly fine for our weeks stay)

Exceeded expectations- a perfect week

So rooms are basic and as a 2 star I wasn’t expecting much more there is a tv in the room and a fridge wardrobe with no hangers and the beds it was also strange because there was no sink in the bathroom it was over the fridge as you came out of the bathroom 
We was meant to be staying in a sc basis but when we got there got put in room only 
The boss of the hotel was renting the rooms as room only but for some reason on the beach was selling as sc so this was the first issue as stated in other people’s reviews there are a good few cats and kittens there which we fed all the time and they was very cute 
So let’s do some points 

Good points 
* the hotel was very cheap to drink in same price as the supermarkets almost 
* Georgina was very friendly and willing to help with anything 
* beds were a double and single not a twin 
* towels were changed everyday (or just more put in old ones wasn’t always taken )
* parking if needed 
* plenty bed around the pool (but we wasn’t there peak season) 
* 2 really cute dogs live there too 

Now bad points 
* the actual boss or bosses always looked so moody and didn’t really like talking to anyone 
* sc was not what we got even though we payed for it 
* the kittens cats would poop and it didn’t seem to get cleaned up very quickly 
* it was so far from the strip and in the heat(daytime) was almost to much to walk to the closest supermarket or restaurants 
* I noticed on the last day our bread had been eaten (mouse) not to sure what it was though 
* the kittens would follow you to your room and try to come inside as they was always starving the poor things 
* the food there wasn’t the best 
* the balcony shutters (not glass door ) would not close and it was to hot to keep the doors shut 
* I stood in glass second day and 3rd there was small chards of glass on the bed 
* aircon €70 extra for the week 
 
All in all for the price paid it’s ok 🤔
But if you can afford more defiantly book somewhere else I’m really easy going and believe it’s just a base but it did take its toll on me
