Résidence Tourmalet

We've just returned from spending 5 nights at the Residence Tourmalet in La Mongie. We originally booked a 4 person studio with Pierre & Vacances at the Pic du Midi (next door), but were given a one bedroom apartment in the Tourmalet. We arrived at the Pic du Midi reception and were directed to the Tourmalet reception about 150 metres away, which wasn't a problem. Location is ideal for skiing, less than 100 metres from the slopes. The Tourmalet is new, the rooms are spacious, clean, very well maintained, ours had a full size fridge (small freezer within), combination microwave (micro/grill/fan oven), dishwasher, hob. If you prefer to cook then the facilities are more than adequate. Car parking is included and is underneath the complex. What made this so good were the reception staff. They spoke excellent English, were extremely helpful and polite and nothing was too much of a problem. The premises has a swimming pool, which we didn't use, however it looked larger than I expected from the photos and was never busy. Although this is self catering the residence does offer breakfast and whilst it is a little more expensive (7 euros each) than local restaurants on comparison it is worthwhile as we used it on our last day. It does save you walking to the local supermarket for fresh croissants etc. On balance we would probably use the local restaurants for breakfast as an alternative to self catering as they offer a slightly wider selection of food than the residence. It's not a criticism but it's good to have the option. I would definitely stay here again.
