Apart Hotel Kalonis has a good location, not far from both the city centre and train/bus station, and basically opposite a shopping mall (useful for late-night food when most restaurants shut). My room was well-equipped, with lots of natural light and good air conditioning, which was important in the heat of a North Macedonian summer!
What sets this hotel apart however is its staff, who were really friendly and happy to chat to me as a solo traveller. They were also unfazed when a guest of mine broke the room key while trying to turn it, arriving to help within a couple of minutes. Ana on the front desk was especially helpful, with a lot of local knowledge, and told me the best places to go to.
Kalonis also offers a super convenient airport shuttle service for €20.

It might be just a 2 or 3-star hotel for its facilities, but the service provided deserves a 5-star ranking, which is exactly what any traveler would appreciate. All the staff in this hotel is extremely friendly and most importantly is very helpful whenever you ask them for information. Here we would like to openly thank again the front desk staff Marjana: we at first asked for the price for a taxi service to do a 3-4 hour tour before going to the airport, but we didn’t find the price acceptable, so we thought to go to the bus station near by to find a taxi driver with a reasonable price. Marjana immediately expressed her worries for us about finding a random taxi driver all by ourselves, so she wrote down a list of taxi companies that are trustworthy, meanwhile telling us that she’s willing to call for us for a better communication. Since at the time we still needed to discuss about the last half day trip, we thanked her replying that we’ll take care of the issue by ourselves. About half an hour later, she knocked our room door, telling us that she has just talked with a taxi company and maybe found a good offer that fits our budget. We were already amazed about her initiative at putting efforts in something that we didn’t ask her to do. Then she called again to give confirmation, set up the pick-up time, made sure about the price for us, she even asked the taxi company to send us a driver that can understand English. All these considerations towards us are done out of her initiative. We could not thank her more. Last thing to mention is that we stayed in this hotel with breakfast included, and since we needed to leave very early in the morning, we asked if there’s the possibility to prepare us a sandwich to take away. Not only she didn’t bend the brow for our request, the next morning we found a bag with 2 burgers and 1 banana for each one. I would probably called it a lunchbox, but not a simple breakfast to go. 

All this description in details is to show how much the staff in this hotel pay attentions to the needs of their guests, and above all, they give much more than we expected at first place. Thank you all again, and we strongly recommend you, who is reading this review, to stay with them in Skopje. The location is good, the room is big and neat, the staff treats you like family. What can one asks more?    

The staff was very helpful.  The room was very nice and in a central location 20 minute walking distance from old town.  It is also near the main bus and train station and a large mall.  The surrounding area is going through renovations but I felt safe and the hotel offers a good value.

a very nice hotel with friendly staff and well equipped rooms. Our room was beautiful with so much effort gone into the detail. There was even a small kitchen and dining table, as well as a fold out bed for our son and still loads of room. The breakfast was delicious and cooked to order with even more friendly staff. No noise issues as it's off of the main road and their bar is below ground level. Cannot fault this hotel and what a bargain price also. Its right by a mall so that was also an added bonus. Highly recommend

well located within a quiet residential area, not far from bus terminal and old town/river. no staff between 10pm to 8am next day. simple breakfast at a hotel with the same name about 100 metres away.
