La Choza Guesthouse

The hostel itself is not the most modern, but the basic amenities are all there. For the price it was very nice. Francesca at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.

The location of the hostel is another plus, if you're trying to spend time in Zona Colonial. 

The number of sitting spaces is pretty good as well, it's pretty easy to sit down somewhere to cool down and talk.

We had such a great experience visiting this hostel, great rooms, a pool and more of a chill vibe then the other hostels around. The owners were very helpful with finding nice places and telling us where to go. Also the cleaners are very friendly and will help you with everything they got when you ask them for something. Also gave us very helpful tips for the rest of our travels.

This place has everything, it's charming, well decorated, well conceived (lovely patio, pool, kitchen, relaxing areas), and so well located. Francesca is someone who loves hosting and has a warm hospitality. Plus it's quiet. A/C + wifi.

I stayed for five nights in this little oasis on the edge of Zona Colonial. Because of the pandemic I had the whole place almost entirely to my self. 2 nights there was a couple, and another night a solo traveler - so it was quiet and an easy place to relax. I imagine if all the rooms were full it would be less calm and relaxing, but still a great place.
My room was comfortable, and rustically stylish. The bed was made out of bamboo - maybe homemade, a lot of the furniture is - and was comfortable, but squeaked a lot with the slightest movement. It was just fine for a solo traveler, but could be noisy for a couple... I loved the bathroom counter and sink, and the shower was spacious and a cooling, refreshing treat after a hot day in town.
The central garden, patio and pool is reminiscent of a Moroccan Riad. The gorgeous tile-work adds to that similarity. I brought a yoga mat and this shady, tree-lined space is maybe one of the best I've ever practiced in.
The pool is delicious in the early evening - almost big enough to swim, certainly deep enough with enough room for water exercises. 
Outdoor kitchen is well equipped, there's plentiful cafes nearby - but also nice to eat meals "at home".
It's easy to walk throughout the entire historic Zona Colonial from here - and it's close to a taxi rank at the end of Calle el Conde to access further afield. With Francesca's encouragement I was able to explore the Metro & Teleferico and the Botanical Gardens. If you are in Santo Domingo on a Sunday morning I recommend the farmer's market in Chinatown for some tasty treats.

This lovely place is right in the middle of the colonial zone. All the sightseeing spots are within 15-20mins walk from the guesthouse. The hosts here is very nice and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

I had the wonderful opportunity to stay 12 days at La Choza  It had been recommended by a friend and Im so very thankful I cancelled my reservations at another guesthouse to spend my time at La Choza.

Its a great place to explore the city, meet other travellers, practice your español, and it's within walking distance of the sea.

La Choza is a beautiful and quirky little oasis in the heart of la Zona Colonial. Just a block or two from la Calle el Conde, the hostel is a very quick walk to shopping, restaurants, and museums. Despite being so close to many attractions, the hostel itself is quite quiet. Francesca is welcoming, kind, flexible, and very knowledgeable about the city. She went out of her way to help me coordinate several trips during my stay. I was fortunate enough to spend multiple weekends in the hostel and tried multiple different rooms - all very reasonably priced, all with hot water, most with decent mosquito control, quite comfortable.  There seems to always be an eclectic mix of people staying, with everyone I met being very interesting, friendly, and polite. Looking forward to coming back!

La Choza is a beautiful little hostel tucked away in old Santo Domingo. It is in an amazing location, close to the Main Street and cathedral. The rooms are clean, the communal space is beautiful and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. My only criticism is that the room was a little hot. The bed was up a ladder in the loft, and even with a fan it was difficult to sleep. They also didn't have any mosquito nets over windows so we got bitten quite a lot. Overall, we had a wonderful time here.

Excellent place in the colonial zone

Stayed at La Choza over the last weekend. Booked my stay after reviewing all the 5-star ratings. The price was good, the location was great, and the lady at the front desk was super helpful. Apart from that, the room was ok and the bathroom was very dirty. I am not sure if my room was bad or all the rooms are similar. I would definitely not recommend it.
