Me and my friends have enjoyed a beautiful week at this resort. Beach and pools are fantastic. Entertainment guy Juan Luis was so friendly both at the pool and at the lobby at nite. Loved how he made people of all ages feel included. Also Eduardo was great with the paddleboard activities. Our concierge Jose was also so helpful and obliging. They all added an extra touch to this great Dominican getaway! Thanks Melia Caribe the Level for this wonderful and memorable holiday! Would definitely recommend Melia Caribe to other people and hopefully I will return again next year!!

This was my second trip to Melia Caribe Tropical.  It was everything I remember and more.  The staff at the Tropical Beach Bar, Starling, Santiago and Fansisco were so accommodating. Everyone from Edgardo, JP, Mr. Leonardo were friendly and so accommodating.  The highlight of the week was our cocktail party at the Beaver tree.  It is so cool to return to see the growth of our tree.

I will start this review by saying that I cannot wait to go back! I was extremely anxious prior to our arrival because I read the reviews and there were a lot of 1 star terrible reviews. I expected the worst even before arriving there. Maaaannnn I was wrong ! Now , the resort is definitely not a 5 star , but it’s a 4 star resort for sure. We arrived there around 3-4 pm, check in took 30 min. We decided to upgrade and get the adults only since we wanted access to all facilities and didn’t wanted to have screaming kids around us! They upgraded us to a huge apartment! Beautiful spacious apartment room number 6006! 
The resort is green, has plenty of beautiful waterfalls and lakes and exotic birds .Very clean. Staff was amazing ! 95% of the time the staff was helpful and smiling and they went out of their way to help us ( that’s why I don’t understand some reviewers saying the staff and service is bad) . Absolutely everyone was amazing , at Bars , restaurants , lobby , check in/out. 
Food was amazing as well. Breakfast buffet is not the best but breakfast room service is outstanding ! Lunch had plenty of options with 2 good buffets and 2-3 a la carte restaurants . Dinner was amazing everywhere we went. Italian restaurant , Thai place, the grill restaurant , and the best of the best ( service and food) the Mediterranean place ) . Beautiful😍
They have plenty of bars , including a casino . They have all types of alcohol including premium ones for an extra charge . 
I could write pages about this place ! But every time we needed something we got it ! Beach was clean , water was clean! Pool was beautiful . There were attendants everywhere . Trolley came every 10 min and if you needed a ride , attendants in golf carts would take you everywhere . They are everywhere and they stop if you need it . W e also tipped everyone 1-2 $, and 3-4$ for dinner. We felt that they deserve it since everywhere we went we got good service Z they don’t have a lot of entertainment but that didn’t bother me . I was there to relax and the shows they had were good enough! Someone said something about staff bothering  for upgrades and trips . They indeed ask you is you want trips and upgrades but no one was aggressive and if you say no they leave you alone . 
I cannot wait to come back . Everything was amazing .

The beach, pool, service, and resort itself were amazing. All of the food (except the omelets) was room temperature and a few of my friends and I got very sick from food poisoning. Language barriers were clearly present, but we could usually find someone who understood enough English to help us. Had a fun time, but it could've been better.

This resort is a solid 4 star. It is definitely a nice resort, but there are some minor issues, or rather, nuances, that will prevent them from getting 5 stars.

First the positive:
This resort is huge, and yet it was not crowded at all, despite the fact that half of our stay was during the supposedly busy March break period.
People just kind of dispersed throughout the huge facility. The beach is about a km (just over half a mile) walk from the main lobby building, so depending on where your apartment or room is located, it may be a good walk. The good news is that the hotel runs regular train service all around the facility, and during the busy evening periods, this is topped up with multiple golf carts transporting people around.

There have been plenty of space on the beach or around the pool at any given time. No need to hunt for beach chairs, or waking up early to reserve seat and finish the rest of your morning sleep on the beach (that is what I did last year at a different resort in a different country). The beach is probably 400-500 m wide (1/4 mile), and you may want to check it out at the Level apartments, as it seemed to be always clean of seaweed.

The food is decent, especially in the buffet, we were never disappointed in that. The other restaurants are nothing special, only good for a break from the buffet. We were not impressed with these a la carte restaurants at all, the desserts were especially bad. During every breakfast or lunch, they try to get you to reserve a spot in the Japanese hibachi or in the Steakhouse restaurant for USD 50 per person, but not with great success, mostly these places were empty at night.

The rooms are clean and upgraded, the room service and the minibar refill is timely and regular.

Staff is friendly, and you don’t feel the urge or necessity to tip. You can certainly tip your golf cart driver, or your waiter/waitress, or the gardener who, just out of the blue, cuts up a coconut for you, but you don’t have the feeling that they expect it from you.

The grounds are very well maintained, there are lots of peacocks around, so you can take some nice pictures. Note that they will appear beside your breakfast table too ;-))

Now the less positive:
If you decide to sign up for any tour, like dune buggys, monkey land, sailing, anything that is outside the resort, be ready that your trip on the bus will be an average of 60-80 minutes longer. That is because they pick up Melia guests first, and drop them off last. It is not really the hotels fault, but it could be an inconvenience, especially because that extra hour you spend on these not so comfortable truck-converted-to-bus type vehicles.

Again, desserts in the à la carte restaurants are definitely seeking some major improvements.

The beach was ha it and miss to be clean from seaweed, and that goes for the water too. The good thing is that this whole beach is so wide, that you will eventually find a spot where everything is clean.

Be ready for all kinds of sales pitches when you walk on the beach. People will try to sell you anything from pictures with a monkey thru parasailing all the way to weed.

Overall, we were satisfied with this resort, and would recommend it for both families with kids of any ages, as well as for couples. We even probably will return in the future. And definitely will mark Melia resorts as preference on my future searches.

A wonderful week at Melia.  We had a family suite by the beach and pool. A perfect location.  We had a great check in experience. The staff was so very friendly and helpful.The food choices were excellent.  Although it is very large, transportation was always available. A beautiful choice for the five of us.

A Girls Week

Headed here for a destination wedding. Outside of the front desk experience, this is a great place to stay. Check in at the front desk took about 75 minutes as they appear to be very disorganized. Had to change rooms to get a single bed and that took another 45 to 50 minutes. Outside of those bad experiences, everything else was fantastic. An over abundance of very good food at the buffets and quite a few options for different restaurants to choose from (French, Dominican, Italian, Mexican, etc.). best rating I can give based upon the terrible experience at check-in. Otherwise this might be a 4 to 4.5 star review.

Punta Cana All Inclusive

For starters, it took 1.5 hours at check-in on a Saturday at 4pm.  The staff didn't seem to notice this might be undesirable for any of us.  Also, there was only 1 person in line in front of us.  We were on a business award trip - 1 of my co-workers was booked into a room with out a toilet, another to a room that was being demolished and had holes in the walls.
The food was not great.  The Japanese restaurant was good, but not included in the inclusive.  The Italian and Thai - not good at all.  The best food we had as part of the all inclusive was at the Dominican restaurant, which is appropriate. I don't consider myself a picky eater, or hard to please.
This resort is very large.  You rely on ground transportation to get you from one end to the other, as it is easily a mile from the beach to the main lobby, and your room will be somewhere in between.  It took 25 minutes to get from our room to the Dominican restaurant in the main lobby on Tuesday evening.
There is no wait staff/service on the beach, so you have to go to the bar at the pool or the 1 beach side restaurant to get a drink when you are at the beach.  This is not a quick trip, as the beach is quite large.
For some positives - the grounds are really beautiful, really pretty.  The sand and ocean are beautiful.  The bed was comfortable and the shower was good.  The staff is adequate, unless you engage and ask their name and start a conversation - then they light up and show their true personality and are really fun to talk with!

Not the best...

Was out of sort with not being able to keep up nutrition and diet at this place. Had a very hard time to find something to eat . Anyone living the Keto lifestyle will have to live off of cheese while you are there. Unless you are a Heavy Beef or Pork Eater.

Just was expecting more

Where do I even begin? Prior to arriving at the hotel I read online regarding the fire at the hotel burning down 3 restaurants. I contacted the hotel directly and they explained to me these restaurants would be relocated. THIS IS A LIE. The 3 restaurants were not relocated. We arrived at the hotel a little after the check in time of 3pm. We stood in line for about 30 mins before even getting to the desk. We finally arrived at the desk I asked the front desk regarding our 2 rooms being near each other and that we requested two double beds. Santos Rodriguez is AWFUL should be fired immediately. He wouldn’t answermy questions explaining he couldn’t see anything yet. (Even though he had a computer screen right in front of him). After another hour of stalling, he explained to us he needed to go to the back to find our rooms. After another hour he spent in the back “looking for our rooms “ he informed us that our rooms have 2 twin beds!! We kindly explained to him that we booked through Expedia 2 double beds and we needed to be accommodated. He continued to argue with us saying he can’t do anything. We asked for the manager and he was even worse. He told us that’s not my problem. He refused to accommodating even after we offered to pay for an upgrade. We called the company we booked and tried to switch hotels but Melia wouldn’t refund the money.  We were a group of girls out of the country and didn’t want to roam around or we would have ran away from this awful place.  After a total of 4 hours of check in, we arrived at our rooms. The rooms were on the border of the resort. Our balconies looked out to construction and a barbed wire fence. Our fridge didn’t work and the room was dirty. We felt so unsafe we needed to put a chair under the door. The next day we visited the level check in office where they were super accommodating and upgraded our 2 rooms. Even though we had to pay for this it was completely worth it considering the night before. The Level felt like a completely different resort. Rooms and grounds are so much better. 

It’s a lie when they say they have 9 pools. The Tropical has one large pool by the beach. If you are in the level you get access to 3 more pools. So that’s only 4. The American grill is disgusting, we ate at The level adults only restaurant for dinner one night expecting steak and lobster and it was vile. Everyone was complaining in the restaurant. We walked out. That’s supposed to be a steak house? BS. The breakfast buffets are good and fresh. The lunch and dinner buffets are gross. They just reuse the food. GABI which is level only was amazing. Best service and meals the whole trip. 

Overall, the resort is way way too big. You need to take a train to get to the beach. Sometimes it would take a half hour to get your destination when you could be on the beach. If your in the level you get a golf cart but still. You visit Punta Cana thinking you’ll be near the beach and we were at least a mile away. Not enough pools either. Nightlife doesn’t exist. We expected dance clubs and got nothing near that. 

Some representatives from the back office asked us our opinions before we checked out and they explained they are getting similar feedback. They are trying to improve the experience. I hope they can but honestly I would never come back here. You couldn’t pay me.

I would not recommend this resort to anyone. We were a group of girls in their late 20s. Families, groups of people, couples, NO ONE should go here.  It’s a complete lie.
