Lugu Hu Yunnan-Sichuan border is the best place in China to visit!!! I have lived here for many years and while I have not been to Tibet & Xinjiang where there are open spaces it is difficult to find in the East of the country. Lugu Hu is just being developed and is nestled away at over 2,500m above sea level, the air is fresh and the water is clear you can see the white water lilies going down 5 meters to the bottom. We met Xiao Ping (小伍 xiao wu) the owner who was a designer from Guangzhou who wanted to escape the city life (He has done it). He designed and ran construction on the place which is extremely comfortable and he just keeps having more plans. They just opened an airport Nov. 2015 and are building a highway that will allow bigger buses and easier car access. I drove from Lijiang in a two wheel drive SUV but you would not want to do it in wet weather.
