I wish there was a 10-star rating I could give Clos Apalta because it was that good. We'd been trying to come here for almost a year, with the trip being put on hold because of Chile's long quarantine requirements. We finally decided to come in Nov 2021. It turned out that all the other guests had cancelled and the property had been shut down for the season to get some upgrades done. Rather than cancel on us, though, Joaquin, the manager, opened the hotel *just for us.* This meant, incredibly, that we had this already extremely intimate property all to ourselves to explore by foot, bike and horse. In addition to the incredible natural beauty, the service here is impeccable. The food is insanely delicious - I couldn't believe the chef is just a very, very talented local guy rather than someone they've flown in from some Michelin kitchen in France. Dragan, the sommelier, made sure our glasses were never empty and that we got to sample the ample bounty of namesake libations on offer. The real cherry on the top of the Sunday was Joaquin offering to book us a night *for free* at the Mandarin Oriental in Santiago after we missed our flight because of a very intense traffic jam (fortunately we were able to get out on a later flight, but the offer was very much appreciated!). Chile is already one of our favorite countries in the world, and now Clos Apalta is one of our favorite properties! We would absolutely come back here on future trips.

Perfection in Chile

We had an amazing three days in the peace and tranquility of Clos Apalta. The setting was breathtaking and the casita luxurious.
The meals were always memorable with a clever mix of flavours, fresh ingredients and well-chosen wine pairings.
The staff were friendly and catered to our every need.
The vineyard and winery are truly remarkable. The underground winery tour was a real highlight.
Clos Apalta is in a class of its own!

Peace & Tranquility

From the moment you arrive, the guest services team is there to look after your every need. Villas are outstanding for comfort, space and amenities, all with stunning vineyard and district views. Meals and drinks are first class, with service to match. Plenty of indoor common areas and outdoor relaxation spots, including pool. Bikes are available to explore the extensive vineyard, or enjoy a relaxing stroll or challenging walk on various trails. The ultimate in luxury and attention with no detail missed. A wonderful stay.

Exceptional attention

The setting next to a top winery in a nice valley is very beautiful. The room is huge, the service is very attentive to detail and the food is superb. And a big plus is that you are next to the Clos Apalta winery, the best one of nine wineries we visited in Chile.

Perfect stay

I'm ecstatic I stayed here. I'm sorry I had to leave. I wish I had known how much I would enjoy the Residence, so that I could have lingered a few more days. I rank this as my best hotel stay ever. This was one of two places that my travel agent recommended for the Colchagua Valley. Based on some quick Internet research, I asked to stay here. I should have done more in-depth research. My wife and daughter would agree. Everything about our stay was superlative:  the lodging, the food, the winery, the service, the views! I'm not surprised the Residence is a Relais & Châteaux property.

My wife and I got the casita named Carmenere (all are named after Chilean wine grapes). We were in the casita the farthest away from the main building. We had commanding views of the vineyards and surrounding mountains. There was a small kitchen nook as we entered. The main room was spacious, almost palatial, with a king bed, ceiling fan, and split level sitting area leading to an outdoor balcony. There was a dresser in the bedroom area, and a desk and wood fireplace in the sitting area. The balcony deck wrapped around the casita. On one side, the deck opened to a much larger deck (by the bathroom area) with an outdoor table and chairs. We had complete privacy from the views of any of the other casitas and the main building complex. 

On the far side of the bedroom was a long hallway. To the right was a massive closet area with shelves and closets on both sides. To the left was the entrance to the spacious bathroom. There was a long counter in the bathroom with 2 separate sinks. Behind the counter was a large picture window with a view of the deck, vineyards, and mountains. The bathroom contained a soaking tub and a separate shower. 

At the other end was a hallway. To the right was an enormous closet area on both sides of the hallway. To the left, the hallway continued into a large bathroom.

Clos Apalta provided complimentary bottles of the vineyard’s white wine and red wine blend in the casita for us to enjoy. 

Reception would take us to and from our room in golf-cart-like vehicles. We only had to call to get a pick-up. There was an infinity swimming pool on the property, but we did not use it.

We had a half-board program, so breakfast and dinner (with wine) was included in our room rate. Breakfast was served at tables. We could order just about any breakfast main course; some items were served in a basket brought to the table. Each afternoon, we would typically head down to the main building before dinner and sit on the outdoor patio and enjoy some wine and cheese or hors d’oeuvres. Each night, there was an individual printed menu with recommended aperitifs, typically a red wine, a rosé wine, and 6 pisco cocktails. There was a sommelier on staff who could advise us about the wines and what to pair with the food. For dinner, we got individualized menus with our names on them and the planned meal (aperitif, starter, main course, and dessert) with wine or Grand Marnier pairings. The menu changed each night. Dinner was a relaxed, gourmet quality experience. 

We learned that the Lapostolle family created the Grand Marnier liqueur in the late 1800s. The family sold rights to the liqueur to the Compari Group 3 years ago. 

We visited the Clos Apalta winery while at the Residence. It was a fascinating and educational tour. We were quite impressed with the (entrance to the) wine cellar at the lowest level of the winery. Clos Apalta was centrally located for visiting other wineries. We ventured to two nearby wineries during our stay.

The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. We left a housekeeping tip each morning. Upon our departure, we left an envelope with a generous tip to be shared amongst the rest of the staff.

Our travel agent booked the Residence along with other hotels during our visit to Chile, so I never saw individual prices. I saw a price sheet in the Carmenere casita that listed the half-board price for the room as USD 950 Double and USD 900 Single. That seems like an amazing bargain for the luxury I experienced.

Phenomenal stay – exceeded my expectations

Coming from a week at Tierra Patagonia, the resorts we stayed at during our return trip was disappointing at best.  When highly rated resorts such as The Singular Patagonia and Ritz Carlton Santiago couldn’t meet our expectations, we thought our trip ended when we left Tierra.  To our surprise, our single night excursion to Clos Apalta was heaven sent.  

The residence is an exclusive experience with your own personal butler, chef, and sommelier.  Serving only four, one bedroom villas hidden in the hillside, the staff ensures you have everything you need even before you ask.  The main house is where the pool and the dining rooms are, the private/common area.  Think Four Seasons Residences in Bora Bora, from the high level transitional interior finishes in the bungalows to the custom menu with your names on them each meal, service of this level was a complete surprise to us in this beautiful country.  The wine is young and upcoming with a sommelier knowing exactly where they’ve been and what lies ahead for them.  Secret.....they’re developing a secret exclusive blend stored in french barrels made of 300-400 year old oak trees, just crazy.  The stage is set and I look forward to hearing about them in the years ahead.  

Tour the winery with the resident sommelier and treat yourself to the most amazing wine cellar containing their private library of wines from the beginning.  Most amazing wine production design I’ve seen, anywhere in the world.  Best two hours ever spent.

Take the self guided hike to the top of the mountain behind the property.  Second best two hours ever spent!  

Overall, what an amazing end to our trip that left us looking forward to the next time we return.  

The epitome of 5 star service

We were in the final week of visiting the hotel. Really spectacular. The surroundings are very beautiful, the hotel and the cabins on the hill with all the views of the vineyards and the valley. The very spacious cabins, the very good bed, the room and bathroom large and with great views. The very good service. in our case nos Diego received who cared about all aspects of our stay. The breakfast and food very rich. The good chefs and service where we played Francisco, Santiago, Josefina and one last chef I don't remember the name. Also, the hotel has a summer service, where Dragan attended us spectacularly explaining with great knowledge the different wines we tasted at lunch and dinner. Regarding the exhibitions, you can go hiking, horseback riding, visit the winery, where the family visits, where the visitor visitor visitor visits, etc. In the case of the visitor, we find that everything is very close to the closet, and in the case of the visitor, we really make a very clear conclusion that everything is very well done.

Spectacular 

An extraordinary location. 4 bungalows sit high above the valley floor adjacent to a world renowned winery. Bungalows are very large with unobstructed views. Large master bath with outdoor patio. Food was Michelin star quality. The wines were included and I cannot imagine them being better. I asked for older vintages and they were made available to us. They arranged wine tours at their winery and several others. No additional cost and very private. Biking and hiking also. 4 days was not enough. Looking forward to returning. 

Heaven

ll I can say is wow! When you enter the gates you drive for around 5 minutes getting higher and higher driving through the extensive vineyards and finally arrive at the residence. We arrived late as we had taken a tour to the coast so we arrived at almost 9pm. The lovely Carolina escorted us to the dining terrace whilst she arranged for the luggage to be taken to our room. 
Dinner is a 3 course set menu with wine pairing. You are offered a pre dinner drink of your choice. The dinner was delicious. Salmon, lamb and white chocolate coconut bomb. The staff were exceptionally attentive, particularly Santiago. 
Our room was beautiful, with a kitchenette, walk in wardrobe, massive bathroom and gorgeous terrace looking out to vineyards and mountains. 
There were coffee making facilities and a stocked fridge all included. 
The next day we took the tour to Neyen vineyard in the morning after breakfast for a wonderful tour with a lovely young lady called Sofia. She took us into the vineyards to taste the grapes and showed us the leaves so I can now identify  Malbec and Sauvignon vines. We then had a delightful lunch back at the residence and laid by the pool for a couple of hours (lots of wasps though) 
We then took the tour of Clos Apalta winery where we were shown the various processes and the massive wine cellar where we did the wine tasting with a very knowledgable young man. 
Dinner was again fabulous that evening. 
All of the staff we encountered were very professional and friendly. The lounge area is also gorgeous where we had a pre dinner drink. 
This is a fabulous place in a beautiful region - not to be missed. 

Stunning 

If you have the opportunity and the budget, don't miss it. Both the restaurant and the hotel (4 casitas) are of unparalleled quality. The perfect service, delicious breakfast and meals, the tour of the wonderful winery, the delicate and discreet attention. The oenologist knows a lot and does it very well. We also fully enjoy the calm and peaceful environment. The terrace towards the valley and its colours, a wonder! At night the fireplace of the fabulous piece! Thank you all the team.
