Talbachschenke

We had a nice week stay here in the Talbachschenke. We rented a self catering chalet (Edelweiss). The chalet was heated by a traditional wood stove, which kept the chalet nice and toasty warm and enabled us to dry our daily ski gear. Plenty of wood outside for us to feed the stove. There was 1 1/2 baths, and 4 bedrooms which could sleep up to 9 (two singles, one triple with bunk beds and a double, and one quadruple with a triple bed and a single bed). The kitchen had a stove, microwave, good sized fridge, coffeemaker and plenty of utensils and dishes- and the dining area had seating for 10 on benches and tables. Very comfortable and spacious for our group of 4. Daily bread service allowed for delivery of fresh semmel, pretzels, and other Austrian breads, as well as options to get cold cuts or eggs if need be. However there are plenty of grocery stores in town so there is no need if you plan in advance. The hotel has a house restaurant which is pretty good, and is located about a 10 min walk from the Planai lift or a 10 min drive from the Hochwurzen gondola. Also only a few minutes walk to many of the restaurants in town. On the weekends in December there is a Christmas market which runs, offering mulled wine, hot drinks and also Christmas booths with gifts of all kinds. Service is friendly and helpful. Parking available right outside the chalet. A very good stay option for a traditional Alpine experience in a good location.
