Casa Magdalena

An amazing 2 bedroom apartment: clean, spacious, airy and light. Located on a quiet side street, 15 min walk from the main square. 
Everything is just flawless since Magdalena is very careful with all the details of hosting. Highly recommended!

Do not be put off by the location.  It is in Zarnesti ( a simple village with not much to see except the shepherd's village on the hill and valley area.  The sheperd's town is called Magura and it borderst Zarnesti ).  At first, the place looks desolate and the pension is located in a side street that is not fixed ( lots of pot holes, dirt road ).  However, you go into the private property of the owner and the pension house is attached to her house.

The pension itself is GORGEOUS on the inside.  It overlooks the mountains around the area.  The pension allows a lot of light bc of the big bay windows and sky light.  There is a little wooden balcony where you can enjoy your breakfast or look out into nature.  The place is HUGE.  It has two bedrooms, a nice kitchen, a massive dining area and lovely, very modern bathrooms with nice stone tiles and a great highly tech shower.  It really is suprisingly beautiful, cozy and super clean.  The hostess is a lovely woman who pretty much leaves you alone to do your own thing.  She lives in her own house outside the pension itself.

Things to do around the area :  LOTS AND LOTS of things to do if you love nature and a hiker.  You can hike up to the sheperd's village of Magura which offers breathtaking scenes of valleys and the Fargaras mountains.  Every Sunday, they have a local market where all the gypsies and locals come together to trade and sell.  The Libearty Bear Sanctuary is a few kilometres away from Zarnesti ( you have to get a driver to take you there as it is inaccessible by walk - it can be done but it's a bit of a hike ).  You can hike up the mountains and there are a lot of nature activities to do ( horse riding etc ).  It really is such a gem if you want to unwind, relax after a few days of sightseeing in Transylvania.

The downside :  There are no set meals or breakfast involved.  The hostess does not run a restaurant or meal program where you have breakfasts with your stay.  The only option is the little supermarket in the corner, at the end of the dirt road ( 2 mins walk ).  The supermarket does not have a lot of items either.  There is only one restaurant towards the town centre.

We used Zarnesti as base to explore the Piatra Craiului park. The Casa Magdalena is very clean, practical and well located. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The apartment has 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and a pull-out couch bed. There is a supermarket in town where you can stock up on food.

Clean and practical

Spending your holliday at "Casa Magdalena" pension is not such a good ideea, unless you are looking for poor strange places. It was about three months ago when I spent just one night there. At two a clock in the morning I felt that something is jumping on my body. I went to the bathroom very fast and gues what ? A big nusty flea jumped directly in the sink. So far so good,  I returned to the bed but after 15-20 minutes when I was about to sleep I heard something like a mouse looking for food. It was already 3 a clock in the morning, and my sleep was gone for good.
Of course in the morning I found another pension, not so "good looking" on the internet but it was for sure much better. So it's up to you...
