Riad Layalina

Asmaa was the kindest, sweetest, most helpful person. The property was beautiful and our room — and especially its bathroom — were amazing! Everything about our stay was perfect!

We stayed at Riad Layalina for 4 nights. It was an excellent experience, I'd give them 6 out of 5 if I could. Great location - easy to get to, you can get by car or taxi right to the entrance door. Medina streets are just a couple of steps away. Views from the rooftop & the terrace are awesome. We also booked a Medina walking tour & a couple of day trips via Riad Layalina - and it was a very enjoyable experience. Breakfast was included in the stay - and it was great. We also booked evening dinners at the riad - and it was an exciting exploration of Moroccan cuisine, we highly recommend. And last but not least - the family team at Riad Layalina are exceptional hosts!

An incredible facility and the owners are incredibly helpful.  The hospitality on arrival was a very nice touch and breakfast was amazing. Important to remember that it is cash only.

We had a great experience staying here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and they helped us book a guide and a taxi to the train station. The breakfast was also good, and they were kind enough to prepare a to-go breakfast the morning we had to leave early for a tour we had booked. 
The location is good--there is a small entrance to the medina near the parking area that almost feels like a secret passageway.

Just be aware that Fes in February is a little cold so ensure you pack a coat.
We also booked train station and Airport transfers with the Riad and that was excellent as we didnt have to start our Fes visit with a taxi driver negotiation.

The place really confirmed how foreign (American) tourists can plan a successful trip to a Moroccan Medina. It allowed us to be within the old city walls without invading the homespace of the locals. We could comfortably walk to the food & souks. It also served all of our basic needs: security, showers, breakfast, comfortable space...and even a little dog therapy. (the fluffy "Skeeta" was a blessing after a few weeks without our own dogs.)

I read the previous reviews and I can say it’s all true. This is a beautiful Riad in an amazing location . 
My wife , daughter and I were treated like family . Every need is taken care of . Our Driver Allie was great and was waiting with a sign at the airport . Then he  took us on multiple excursions taking care of all needs.
 Big shout out to Esmaa !! She was nothing short of amazing . Breakfast each day was delicious and prepared anytime we needed . We also ate supper and soup multiple evenings . 
Thanks to Esmaa’s brother as well who took care of us and organized if needed .
As well Jerome was available by what’s app for any clarification . 
In summary if you want to stay in a beautiful guest house and be cared for like family . …..Just book this Riad !!!

This is the best riad we’ve stayed in. It also seems to be the best location in Fes—just steps to the Medina but it feels like an oasis. The staff members are wonderful; in particular, Assma is truly lovely. Kita, the puppy, should be named a Moroccan National Treasure. There are many restaurants in Fes but don’t overlook a dinner at the riad—Assma is a fantastic chef.

Riad Layalina is awesome! Jerome was there to greet us and his team brought us snacks while we chatted, and that was just the beginning of an incredible experience. The property itself is gorgeous, the attention to design detail is impeccable; Jerome told us about all the remodeling he did to the place when he bought it. The rooftop views are incredible, the courtyard and adjoining open air seating area are amazing places to relax and unwind after the hustle and bustle of the markets. The back patio was perfect for the incredible breakfasts that they provide. Jerome won't always be there, so we got lucky, but worry not, the entire staff is extremely helpful and always available to answer questions and provide recommendations or help with reservations. The location is great, a stones throw from the gate to the medina but far enough away that it's extremely quiet. Would 100% recommend and stay here again!

All of your staff was extremely accommodating and nice.  The riad was beautiful and well cared for and the location was convenient to the medina.  There was some some minor confusion regarding the price for the rooms versus the the price we were expecting.  It was handled well and to the satisfaction of all.  Mike

A Gem in the Fes medina

Got a letter from Jerome urging me to write a review, so I will.

1.  Great location, five minute walk from the Medina.
2. Very much liked the hotel.  Renovations a bit cheapish and standardised (pressed concrete) and pictures of the absentee owners on the wall, as if they were Royalty, were a bit naff, but, overall, I liked it.
3.  Fabulous water pressure and steam power in the old-fashioned bathroom.
4.  Esmaa was very hospitable and had a bit of a sense of humour, which I appreciated.
5. Dinner was good.  Even got some wine for me.
6. Breakfast was good.  Some baked products were fresh; others weren't.
7.  Some minor issues:  heater in room wasn't working properly and couldn't be fixed when brought to the attention of staff; internet in the bedrooms would stop working for 20-30 minutes and then come back on again; light bulbs missing in bedroom; door hanging off wardrobe; struggle most morning to light the gas heaters -- (sometimes quite an extensive and fruitless struggle).  Why not just get then ready beforehand?
8.  Taxi driver not there when arrived at airport.  Had to call hotel.  Some confusion, but driver arrived within 20 minutes.
9.  Hotel charged 50 euros for quick drive around city walls (from already established hotel taxi driver).  Rather expensive for Morocco.  In my naiveté I tried to give the 50 euros to the driver in question but he said I had to give it to the hotel, which I did.  Seems to me the driver should get the money, not the hotel.   (Maybe Jerome in Paris can explain more fully how things work in this regard.) My guess is that the hotel took a big cut.  Maybe, quite a big cut. 
Could be wrong. Very Euro-friendly place.  No credit cards.  Bill paid in euros; change given in local currency.
10. Cute and friendly house dog, as others have noticed.  On the topic of dogs, was kept awake in the early hours by barking dogs.  Not the hotel's fault but, perhaps, worth noting.

All in all, not five star and not three star -- four star seems reasonable.

Jerome and the staff at Riad Lyalina went truly above and beyond to make my travel companion and me feel welcome and cared for on our first trip to Morocco. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable. It was cool in Fez while we were visiting so the high quality bed comforters and very hot shower were excellent treats. Breakfast was delicious with the best savory crepes I had during my entire trip! The location is perfect for accessing the medina as well as getting dropped off by taxi and having only a short, safe walk to the entrance. We didn't drive, but there are safe spaces for private vehicles or motorcycles. I wouldn't hesitate to return this riad in a heartbeat!
