Athens Cypria Hotel

We had a very good experience at this hotel. Let me start by saying that you should not compare a 4-star American hotel experience with a 4-star European hotel (no matter where you are in Europe). The rating is accurate for the experience in the part of the world you are in. The hotel is very conveniently located; Syntagma Square, shopping, restaurants, Hop On Hop Off busses, major tourist attractions are all within a 2-5 minute walk. The rooms were sufficiently supplied with toiletries, walk-in shower and comfortable bedding. There are two wings, I can only comment on the one I stayed in, which appeared to be newer. I have read comments about street noise and yes I heard it, but it was not a deal breaker for me. I simply closed the window until the street quieted down around 11pm. The elevators are small, so be prepared to get close to your fellow traveler (that is consistent throughout Europe). You will struggle to try to move lots of luggage using the elevator. Its not uncommon to need a couple of trips. At checkout time, especially if its a pre-cruise stay, allow yourself plenty of time to avoid frustration. The rooftop restaurant was pleasant and the view was beautiful, especially at night. Be aware of the food service hours, I almost missed dinner because the food and bar service hours are different. The bar remains open for the posted hours, food service ends several hours earlier. My dinner was tasty and reasonably priced. The staff! They were very professional and accommodating. Before my arrival, I had emailed questions/requests numerous times and they always responded quickly. I could manage my expectations and make some timely personal plans based on their feedback. We had a lot of luggage and walking to the designated bus stop was not an option. Working with the front desk, we were able to reserve luggage courier service upon checkout. It made a significant difference; less stress and less wear and tear on the body. The hotel location is primarily vehicle free, be prepared so you don't get frustrated when you have to drag luggage...most of us pack too much anyway. Breakfast was good. There was a sufficient variety of food and morning drinks. Plenty of space and easy to navigate the room with plates and glasses. Overall, I would absolutely stay at this hotel again. Location, staff and environment met our needs.
