Great place fab people the accommodation was clean  so friendly . Great for walking holidays great for shopping in York and wonderful Leeds all close by . Even a bus ride to Leeds shows you the beautiful country side.well worth a visit 

We loved our room - it was very comfortable and we enjoyed walking around the delightful neighborhood.  We also very much enjoyed eating in the 'bar' area and the food was delicious.  Everyone was so friendly and helpful.  Carol and her husband do a fabulous job in so many ways to create a very special place for staying as we were driving around the English countryside for the first time.  We are very grateful.

As with the last reviewer, ours was quite a last minute booking too and I'm glad we didn't take any notice of the reviews. Carol and Trevor were fantastic hosts. The room we stayed in was the smallest of the 3 but it was perfect ! The continental breakfast in the fridge was a perfect start to our day.

We had tea in the pub and talked to the locals and Trevor who made us feel very welcome. The all made the effort to say goodbye to us when they left one by one. 

I had scampi and chips with a huge salad - couldn't fault it. My husband had Gammon and chips with lots of veg - also very tasty and faultless.

I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again and we will do hopefully next year.

We booked this last minute and in a rush so didn't have time to read reviews until after booking. Now, if I had read before booking, I might have decided not to go after seeing some negative comments from some folk. This just shows,  be VERY careful on judging reviews as we had an excellent time here. The three rooms are behind the pub in front of the car park and they are large, clean and just the job.  They do not do a cooked breakfast, but that doesn't bother me as I prefer continental, not big on sausage and eggs...etc. Carol met us as we arrived and she was a lovely lady and very pleasant.  The room had plenty of food in the fridge, with plenty of choice, bread, jams, croissants, smoked salmon, boiled eggs.  There was crackers and biscuits and a fruit bowl. I really could not find any fault at all.  It was like home from home, sat in our pj's in the morning eating breakfast, so relaxing.  We ate in the pub first night and we both enjoyed it, I had steak with all the trimmings, it was excellent and even though I was quite full managed a sticky toffee pudding, it was yummy.  Second night we went in for a drink and the locals were all friendly and having a really good time. Carol and Trevor are obviously well liked by the locals. We sat and had a drink with Carol and Trevor and had a lovely natter with them.  We would definitely stay there again.  SO, please read reviews with caution.  Any bad reviews for the lamb and flag would be ridiculous and in my opinion, the guests that complain are ridiculous.

Just excellent

Fabulous friendly beautiful village

We booked this as a base for attending the Harrogate Gift Fair, on the basis that we would be away from the town and able to eat and wind down with a drink without driving, as well as keeping up with our business on the WiFi that they claim they have. On arrival, we were asked if we were another couple, which was quickly resolved to be fair - just a minor clerical error. The poorer elements were yet to be revealed, but first the Good points - the room (Fountains) had a super-king bed as advertised, and was comfortable. The location is wonderful. After that, it goes down hill somewhat. We were greeted with the news that there would be no food on Saturday night because of a private party booking, even though our room had been booked several months in advance. Neither was there any access to the “fine ales”, as the pub was closed. This was followed by the news that meals ended with a Sunday Lunch, and would not be available after our day at the Gift Fair, shortly adding that breakfast was only “continental” from the fridge in the room. To be fair, the offerings were decent quality, although the room lacks a table at which to eat. The real drawback is the fact that the WiFi only works in the pub, not in the rooms. The fact that the pub was inaccessible on both nights made this s major issue, such that we had to drive off towards Harrogate to get a signal! On paying the bill, there was no reduction or apology for the absence of service. According to local people, the pub is for sale, and the attitude was very much one of their wanting to free themselves of the burden.  It’s a pity, as the location is very good.
