My husband and I have eaten here many times and have enjoyed every meal. When we heard about the New Year's Eve party we invited 4 of our friends from Scotland to join us and we all stayed over night.
The party was excellent it was a karaoke and everyone joined in to make a brilliant atmosphere. 
The staff were excellent as always and very accommodating.  We stayed in a beautiful bedroom which was beautifully decorated, warm and spotless. Breakfast next morning was ordered the night before and cooked to perfection. 
All in all a brilliant night in a fabulous friendly pub enjoyed by all 6 of us.
Would not hesitate to stay or eat here again.

This was a stay that exceeded my expectations. We had a one night stopover to break up a long drive and booked fairly last minute.
The pub is in a beautiful little village, situated well on a quiet road with a garden to the back and a pretty road to the front.
We were welcomed on arrival and given the key to our room upstairs. Room 1 was comfortable and looked over the front of the property to the road. It contained an exceptionally comfortable bed and also (important to me) a shower with good water pressure and plenty of hot water (I hate a disappointing shower!). Also tea and coffee facilities and a TV if needed.
The food downstairs was good, breakfast was excellent.
All staff were friendly and helpful.
This is a strong recommend for a spot to break a journey (very good access to the M6 but far enough to be quiet at night) but also for a weekend away as it is a beautiful part of the world. The lakes are close too.
I would definitely return should we be in the area again.

Wow! What a find. Lovely atmosphere, staff, food, rooms and facilities. Rooms spotless and everything we needed in there. Staff could not do enough to for us, all so lovely. Will defiantly be visiting again. Also dog friendly so will bring our pooch next time.

Really lovely place to stay.  Very nicely furnished bedroom  with  lovely en suite. Super food and friendly, obliging staff.  Dogs are made welcome and add to the ambience without being intrusive.  We’ll definitely be back.

Another perfect stay at the Dukes Head Inn!!! This was our 3rd time visiting with our dogs and it was faultless just like our previous stays. We stayed in rooms 1 & 6 which are beautifully decorated, spacious and relaxing. Tom & Stephen are the perfect hosts as are all the other staff. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to ensure you have the best time. The food is amazing. Definately recommend the Sunday lunch! Great bar with wide selection of drinks and there is a beautiful garden at the back where you can relax and chill in the sunshine. The small village is Armathwaite is beautiful and it has a convenient train station 10 mins walk from the pub which is on the Carlisle to Settle train line.  Cannot recommend this place more, it is first class! We cannot wait to return!

Everybody was Very friendly the service most welcoming.The food was fantastic very good and very filling. The chocolate pudding was superb. We went for our birthdays really enjoyed it. We took the dog there must have been ten dogs there they were all wonderfully behaved. A pleasure to be there it was a lovely relaxing visit we will defiantly be back many thanks to all the staff for making us so welcome thank you

Fantastic Sunday lunch, food was superb and staff really friendly. We called in on the off chance of a table for Sunday lunch as we were walking in the area with our small dog. We were surprised to find the restaurant almost empty and it’s difficult to understand why as the food and service are excellent. The furnishings and facilities within Dukes Head Inn restaurant are top notch and we can’t thank the team enough for a lovely meal and it was great that well behaved dogs are allowed in one half of the excellent restaurant. We would highly recommend the Dukes Head Inn and I’m still trying to understand why people were not queuing to get in! I guess we just arrived at the right time, we’ll definitely be back.

We love this place. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and cosy. We had dinner which was fish and chips. Breakfast was also lovely,. Very dog friendly which 
was great! Walks around the area are beautiful. The free and secure parking is a bonus. We will definitely return.

We stayed for one night in the Dukes Head on our way down to Yorkshire – it was an ideal stopping off point for my wife, myself and small dog. The hotel is in the sleepy but picturesque village of Armathwaite near Penrith in Cumbria. It would be a great base for a visit to the Lake District and is handy to the M6. We were very impressed with the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. Our room was tastefully decorated and very comfortable, one of six bedrooms in the hotel. It was really quiet at night as the village is away from any main roads and very tranquil. Our dog was welcome in the restaurant and bar areas – we chose to eat in the bar and had a lovely dinner from a varied menu featuring local produce. There was also a good selection of beers and a nice wine was recommended to us by the staff. We always find that you meet like minded people in dog friendly hotels and we had a very pleasant evening in the company of another couple who also had a dog with them. Breakfast was great also and well presented. There are lovely river walks in the village and it is a truly rural setting. We would happily return to the Dukes Head and would highly recommend it.

We stayed here for one night on our way south.  We were pleasantly surprised when we were shown to our room.  It had been recently renovated including the bathroom with its excellent shower.  The room was nicely appointed at a high standard.

It is located on the main street of this village and therefore there is quite a bit of traffic.  However, it died down late evening and therefore it was quiet during the night.

We had a typical pub style dinner in the large garden as it was a very pleasant evening.  Food and drinks had to be ordered at the bar.  The food was brought to us outside.

They managed to fit me in last minute just before the kitchen closed so grateful for that!

Staff were very lovely and the pub had a great country feel to it.
Great choice of drinks on offer.
Nice atmosphere too.
Got the fried chicken, which was good bit pricey for what it was (£16.95 - realistically should have been about £13). Wedges were plain and had no crisp, and the slaw was boring but the actual chicken was really good.

After having just checked out of the Dukes Head Inn we would like to thank all the members of staff for making us feel SO SO welcome during our stay, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond our expectations! We booked the Dukes Head Inn as it was less than 20 minutes away from Penrith, where we attended a wedding the day after arriving. 

We had our 4 month-old Miniature Dachshund puppy, Snoopy, with us who was treated like a Prince from the moment we arrived. He got plenty of fuss and belly rubs from all the staff, which he very much obliged to and enjoyed! 

Our room was really lovely, very clean and most of all super comfy (which Snoopy is demonstrating in the photos). During our stay we enjoyed a 3-course meal which was absolutely fantastic. There was also good selection of beers and ales which my husband enjoyed sampling whilst sitting in the lovely big beer garden at the back.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and would like to thank Tom and the team. Snoopy would also like to thank you for cooking him his first ever Cumbrian Sausage for breakfast each morning. All the best to you all and if we are ever up in Cumbria again we will be sure to pay a visit 😊

Snoopy's 1st Holiday

We spent a fantastic weekend at The Duke’s Head to celebrate 30 years of friendship. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable with some luxurious touches. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday, the menu reflected local produce and was delicious. Staff were warm and welcoming, great suggestions for activities, a really lovely atmosphere for a relaxing weekend break - thank you to Tom and his amazing team 💕
