Everybody has different expectations when booking a room. Our was: to have a room where we can keep our luggage while we having tours in the nearby, and having sleep at night. But we definitely got more from this place! The owner and his family are really nice. We checked in very late (03:30 at night) because of our flight, but they welcomed us with a big smile and said that it is no problem at all. The breakfast is perfect for start a day, we really liked the tea what they gave us. Next day we wanted to go on a half day tour. The owner told that his son can drive for us with their Tuk-Tuk. We really liked that! Actually he did it very cheap compared to "Tour specialized companies". He also organised our safari in Udawalawe. They help you in everything you need. The rooms are quite small, but it was perfect for us to sleep. The location is great, the beach and the whale watching harbour is really close, and there are literally a hundred restaurant in 10 minutes of walking.

Wish we could stay more!

Had a great time staying here at Mirissa Golden Resort. The rooms are tidy, its on a great location and the man that lives here is very helpful and speaks great English. Next to that it's very cheap. I would recommend everyone staying here if you come to Mirissa.

Perfect stay

You have everything you need and the owner is soo lovely he will do anything he can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The place is very close to the beach and restaurants. Great value for your money

Lovely owner!

I intended to stay one night, but instead stayed 6! this is the best value for the location ( 3 minute walk from beach) and amenities in Mirissa! For only $10 per night, my own room, comfortable bed, mosquito net in perfect condition, HOT shower with great pressure, and free breakfast made to order every morning. There was no moldy smell, and the furniture/decor in the room was aesthetically pleasing. In addition, Justin, the owner, is the sweetest elderly man. he speaks great English and is always somewhere nearby, keeping an eye on his guests to ensure they are happy. several times I intended to leave, and he would sweetly say, with a look of confusion, "no, you stay." I didn't need much more convincing, as Mirissa is lovely and I was very comfortable. Several days after I had already checked out of the Resort, I crashed my motorbike just down the street. I was injured and covered in mud. I hobbled over to Justin and asked if I could shower. He was more than accommodating, bringing me into his personal home and attending to my needs. I cannot recommend Mirissa Golden Resort enough! I've been in Sri Lanka for one month and this has been my favorite accommodation so far.

Didn't want to leave!! Best hotel yet!

I booked and paid for the Mirissa Golden Resort in advance. The operators didn't want to know about it. They told me I could have a room but pay for it again. Of course I didn't. That's why I can't report anything to the resort.

AWAY for the traitors!!!!!!!

I booked a room at this "hotel" for my driver, as the hotel we stayed in Mirissa had no drivers quarters.  When showing up at Golden resort the night we arrived, my driver was refused and told to leave. He had to find somewhere else, late at night.  Next day I confronted the owner of Golden, and he informed me that 1) they do not take guests with reservations through hotels.com, and 2) they do not want Sri Lankan nationals as guests in the "hotel" !  Incredible!  Discriminating his own countryment!

Discrimination

We book the place to stay 4 nights over new year. The price was okay 20€ per night for 2 people. The room was very small and the bath was pretty dirty ;( but the bed had a Moskito net. Also the place was very close to the beach and very quiet at all. The owner offered us breakfast for free and he is a very nice guy.

All in all I would book it again but just for a short stay in mirissa. 

Nice place close to the beach 

We spent a week with a few friends and my couple in this luxurious home stay and everything.Justin, the regent, is a humble person who will help you with everything he can.His motto is  I'm happy if you're happy.The rooms are fine, clean, with ventilator and mosquito net.In addition, you'll have a terrace to spend the night with the friends!The woman prepared us a great dinner at a very, very low price which was delicious!

A comfortable stay with Mr Justin.

The description we read when booking certainly did not match what we experienced. As soon as we arrived, after a three hour journey, the owner  sat us down and proceeded to try to sell us a whale excursion and Ayurvedic massage. This went on for several minutes before we were allowed into our rooms. Our room was dark, dingy and hardly big enough for two people. The towels, although clean had seen much better days and were stained and looked dirty. The bathroom layout was such that having showered you would get your feet wet visiting the toilet. The breakfast was quite basic and not what we had come to expect of Sri Lanka. This accommodation may be suitable for people on a very tight budget who are not so concerned about comfort and presentation.

Tired and jaded

This is a guesthouse, not a resort but it is close to the beach, a 3 to 4-minute walk.  For guaranteed beach, go left when leaving the GH, then left at the T, then cut to the beach when you see it.

Check in was interesting, we first visited with the owner for a while before discussing the room, a nice relaxed check in.  He offered us a choice of ground or 1st floor rooms, we took 1st floor.  Our host was very friendly and helpful.  If you have questions, just ask him.  He arranged a tuk tuk to Unawatuna for us for 1300 rupees which seemed reasonable.

The rooms were clean and had a four-poster queen bed, mosquito net on a frame all round the bed (worked well), fan, bathroom, soap, towels and Wi-Fi.  The 1st floor rooms share a balcony with a roof overtop which gives some shade for most of the day.  Also, two chairs and table out front of room with a light.  Breakfast was 2 fried eggs, toast, jam, butter, tea or coffee served when you request it.

A Commercial Bank ATM can be found by walking out of the GH, turn right, walk until you hit the main (Matar) road, turn right and the ATM is about 50-100 metres along, only a 10-minute walk.   If you’re lucky you might see peahens and a cow with her egret.   

Laundry service available, came back in a day and were dry (maybe used a dryer). There is a little local store across the street (closed on Sunday) where you can buy water, other drinks and snacks.  

Overall, a good GH to stay at, close to the beach, clean rooms and a very friendly helpful owner, we could stay here again no problem.
